Hi everyone!
Normally I don't write much here on the board, I'm usually content with staying in the background keeping things going here with bluey as my trusty sidekick. However, today, or rather last night, something was bothering me so much, I hardly slept. I don't usually discuss politics with most people, it's a topic which, like religion, can bring out the worst in people, but here goes. How many of you that reside in the U.S. know about the National ID card that is descending on us next year? According to some 'polls' that were taken, Americans are in favor of it 2-1. However, that aside, how many know what it will mean to our freedom? I don't want to make this into a rant either, though I think it will probably sound like one.. I'm very concerned and to be honest, frightened about this ID card and what it's going to mean to the future of our lives. Do you know that you will not be able to purchase an airline ticket, open a bank account, take a cruise, and you won't be able to obtain a drivers license etc without one? And also that biometrics will probably be involved with it?? Meaning that most everything pertaining to our lives will be linked to the ID card. Scary stuff!! This ID card is being touted as the means to stop terrorism and illegal immigration, but it won't. For one thing, we're allowing trucks from Mexico through our borders right now and no one is searching them or a thing!! Who knows what's in those trucks! But I digress, read these three articles, they're very informative and can tell you more about this ID SCAM then I could begin to write here. http://www.house.gov/paul/tst/tst2005/tst050905.htm and http://www.naturalnews.com/021744.html http://epic.org/privacy/id-cards/ <----- This is a VERY good article!!!
I feel so helpless, our government has far too much power and even writing this here, I wonder if anyone will even care? We should. Because when the Feds start telling us what we have to do, that's when I get angry and disgusted that our politician's our selling us down the river. All the current candidates, with the exception of one man is in favor of the ID card, and I would wager a donut that most won't even know who that one, brave man is??
And please, before anyone tries to tell me that the ID card is a good thing, don't bother, I know all about it, I've read dozens of articles about it, and I know what it's about... I'm just curious to see if anyone agrees with me and there's any room for hope or I should start handing out '1984'
Thanks for listening! Rant done now.....

Did I hear my name?
Funny thing is why I was reading that I was eating a donut and no am not betting my donut away. One cos I like donuts and two cos Ive just eaten it lol
Well am not from the U.S so I suppose all just gate crash this thread But I can remember a few years ago when our government was on about doing the same thing over here. You don't hear nothing about it now. I think there was to much of an uproar about civil rights and all that. Plus we was going to have to pay for the privilege of having this put upon us. Well even if they gave the cards to us free its still us that gave them the money fro our taxers.
I think we have other ways of proving who we are with things like driving license and birth certificate. Plus our government Burt the terrorism thing up when they was trying to conviens us of this being a good idea as well. Well that card would be as easy to fact as a passport or any thing that you may use to ID your self with. This is capitalism and the reason we thought a war is so we dont loss our rights by governments enforcing stuff like this upon us.
I say stick it to um in anyway you can and fight for the freedom you was born with. You owe it to future generations and to the passed who have already suffered for our freedom.
Anyway that's my take on it. HA HA Got him!

That does scare me queen, i don't like the idea of the government being able to snuff out your existence with the flick of a switch your card stops working and presto you can't do anything...Kind of makes me sick everything that's going on in the government, and even as I type this I know I have to watch what I type, with a few key words and you'll be observed by home land security, no privacy. The sad thing is how covert it's been, nothing in the news, nothing anywhere, like the possibility of the formation of the NAU, while it sounds far fetched, it's a serious possibility that also scares me

Yeah they don't seem so keen on the idea over here now, do they Bluey?
I'm guessing because it has been widely disapproved of. So there's hope Cleo - if the protest movement becomes big enough - so keep shouting about it!
I agree with you, they are a waste of time and the benefits do not outweigh the negatives in my opinion. ID cards are a slippery slope towards a surveillance society - like a police state. And i would be willing to bet a large sum on ID cards increasingly being harnessed by corporations - no doubt under the premise of increased efficiency for both business and consumer. The problem is do we really want our personal details to be so freely available - financial, health (genome, heritability), criminal records and so on.
Unfortunately i think ID cards are inevitable - they'll appear at some point in the future. But i don't think now is the time - not when when our democracies are so weak. |

nevermore is that true? could the government really "turn off' your card thats terrible Nah, I'm just speculating, but I wouldn't put it past them to do something like that though,on an unofficial level of course, lol
I agree with indigo, that the cards will become prevalent in the future but not now, too many people will cause an uproar, I hope anyways

Actually from what I understand, the ID Card will have the capability to be 'turned off.' For instance, if you don't pay your taxes... I would put much past the Feds either.
And as far as people causing an uproar, well, I would like to believe this with all my heart, but frankly I don't see it happening. It's not that I don't think people are capable of saying 'NO' but rather that when they do, no one listens.
The ID Card should be a matter of choice, it should not be mandatory. If won't make us safer, it won't make us smarter, it will slowly take away our freedom and right to privacy.. And that is what I am strongly opposed to.

How many of you that reside in the U.S. know about the National ID card that is descending on us next year? Seems that was passed in 2005 when all you had to do was say 'terrorism' and you were pretty much assured a green light. A lot of nasty stuff got passed in those days.
I'm just curious to see if anyone agrees with me and there's any room for hope or I should start handing out '1984' I really don't see a lot of the damage being undone. Sad to realize that some is still to come into effect.
