Ya, McCain is an untrustworthy lyer but is the only option for me If I was going to vote. Obama doesnt seem like president material and Hilary shouldnt get back in the white house, regardless of how great her husband was....lol

Politics makes me laugh.

It's either that or get so depressed i'm suicidal. I'll take laughter.

Anarchist. It's impossible with humans on any large scale, but *shrug*
Vast majority of humans crave either to control or be controlled.

I know a couple people here are socialists not to call you out or anything but *Skorian cough cough* *Fulgrim cough cough*Toungue

Yea so you both are socialists, could you explain to me why you are socialists? What do you find appealing about the ideology?

The reason why I ask is I'm writing a paper right now on socialism and wanted to hear about it from people who consider themselves socialists

I'm a Republican, and I really, really do not like McCain. To be honest, I hate all politicians. I'm writing in my candidate. Who cares if it doesn't count- I'm exercising my rights, dammit!

I used to be a republican, but Bush made me realize that the whole party is just like self serving monsters. I wish Ron Paul didn't drop out. As it is now, the republican party only benifits the top 5% richest people in the country and it takes advantage of the other 95%. I don't like what they are doing at all. Not that democrates are much better, but at least they pretend to care.

Hmmm, perhaps you should rethink what is considered president material. Though honestly I woulda chosen John Edwards before Obama.

Darn, where to begin. Many consider it the perfect government. The problem is that humans are imperfect and tend to corrupt it. I mean the ideal is sound. Everything is done for the good of society rather then the good of the individual. Which through the good of society the individual is supposed to benifit. If that makes sense. Socialism and communism are totally different. Like I guess you could call communism the result of socialism gone wrong. Anyway, in socialism people expect people to do things for the good of their fellow man rather then for the good of themselves. What would motivate people would be caring about one another rather then makeing some great profit. Look at Canada or Europe for socialistic governments. Socialism is an economic system basically and determines how a countries economy is run. Say you made a law that no CEO was allowed to make more then a 200% greater amount then their lowest paid employee. This would kind of be a socialistic idea in a way. Well, in my mind. The government would fix prices and set things to be fair for everyone rather then totally up in the air. Someone from Europe or canada could probably explain better. Most places don't have pure socialistic systems, they tend to have a little of many all sort of smattered together. Generally when I think of socialism I think of no real social classes. Everyone is in pretty much the same class with very little overall distinction.

I don't know that I am really a "socialist" socialist. I mean I like some of the idea's, but also like some other ideas. The democrate party has socialistic leanings. I am just a little more that way then most of that party. Not sure I like the idea of the government owning everything in the strictest sense. Though honestly, it's not something I really spend much time reading about so I could have my facts all messed up with alot of crap I have heard over the years. I have just always heard that Canada and most of Europe practices socialism. Or at least to a much greater extent then here. Maybe I just like being different.

I actually googled a few things and I realize I really really really really don't spend much time reading about politcal leanings... Well, basically never, lol. And this just after reading a little for a few minutes.

RE: Politics

Yea socialism is.....Interesting that's for sure but I'm not sure I would say I'm a full blown socialist though. Marx was frickin' brilliant though for seeing the exploitive relationship between workers and capitalists and it was probably because of him that workers have it so much better now adays but he was surprisingly quiet when it came to what to do after the revolution. I agree that communism is a terrible system and a corruption of what socialism is about, Lenin misinterpreted Marx big time and things went bad quick.. Even though Marx uses the word "communist" when he's talking in the communist manifesto, I asked my professor and he said that he meant communist in a different sense then what we see it as today Marx probably meant just someone who was a socialist not a totalitarian bastard like Stalin and what he made it into the murderer...

Today in political ideologies my professor talked about communism but then got to talking about how America's two party system is really more like a 1 party system with 2 branches and no matter who we elect there won't be very much change and he even sited the fact that most of the cabinet members for the next presidency are pretty much the same whether McCain or Hilary/Obama get elected. This is true, we are really under the illusion that we have a democracy when really we live in a single party aristocracy, it kind of makes me sick to my stomach to be honest with you.

Then he talked about a lot of the governments that Europe has like England and France's government which are democratic with a lot of parties and they have a lot of socialist tendencies like nationalized health care for example. I would love to live in a system like that instead of this aristocracy filth so in that sense I guess you can call me a socialist now
