Foods you actually eat that others might find strange or gross

I eat raw broccoli every day and I enjoy it.

I like broccoli both raw and cooked.
When my youngest son was like 3 or 4, I had to keep broccoli stocked or he would get so mad. He would just grab a little broccoli tree and walk through the house eating it raw.
That lasted a few years. He still eats it raw, but not nearly as often.

Is eating broccoli raw weird? I never thought it was, but I haven't eaten meat for almost 21 years, so that might be why.

I’ve ran into people not from southern or mid-southwest USA that have never heard of or think okra is a weed, not edible or gross. Hot (spicy) pickled okra is an amazing snack, so is breaded & fried fresh okra. Both are a wonderful dipping agent for Ranch dressing. It’s good stewed in gumbos. I can’t imagine eating it raw, because of the slime inside (that disappears once cooked or pickled) but I’m sure some folks do.

I've never had okra, but that sounds good - I'm a fan of spicy foods in general, and I know I like gumbo. I'll have to try okra when I get a chance sometime.

This would be a not too expensive way to try some. I don’t think I would eat it as it comes, but add it to a pot of gumbo (or some into a bowl of gumbo in case you just reaaaally dislike it).

I like it cooked, in casseroles or stir fry. If it’s raw it has to be the carrier for some ranch dressing. But my dogs will beg for frozen broccoli tops. They like it raw & cooked, too- but the frozen bit is just too funny.

@TheScentofGlitter hey guess what I tried this weekend!

I got some takeout with friends, and I was browsing the menu for snacks, and lo and behold what should I find, but fried okra. I took it as a sign that this was my chance to try it, and sure enough it was pretty tasty. I'd definitely eat it again.

Now I just have to find that hot and spicy pickled okra that you mentioned. I like hot and spicy, and I like pickles, so it sounds like something that's right up my alley.

Woot! Glad I didn’t steer you wrong. Any grocery store should have it pickled. Right alongside the cherry peppers, olives & baby corns on the pickle aisle. I do like the spicy ones vs. the regular. Happy eating =)
