one lonely guy

I usually select my friends by commonality of values and/or activities. Having no family and almost no close friends makes life a daily challenge.
I took (very) early retirement for stress/health reasons. I'm framing it as my 'second childhood'. Joining clubs (e.g. hiking, nature, scrabble) has helped maintain my sanity, and I do meet many interesting people. Close and meaningful long-term friendships remain rather elusive.
