    Halloween Games -- any favorites?

I've been looking around for something new to try. I've got Dead by Daylight and some of the classic horror games like Amnesia, etc.

The workplace as a good place to make friends?

This is normally what I hear for the post-college crowd. What are your experiences?  I work for a company that resells hardware and I only regularly see a couple people every day. When I started I felt a lot of pressure to find personal friends here, and it hasn't really panned out.

Ideas for meeting people that don't include bars, clubs, or drinking?

This is a big issue I'm running into. I realize that you can show up to a bar and just order a Coke, I feel like I'm not going to make very many friends in a setting I hate and feel obligated to show up to because it's 75%+ of the activity in the area. There's a couple alternatives I've been...

    Work Spouses

I've been hearing about this a lot recently. It's supposed to be a close co-worker you turn to for company and support. Opinions? Is it intended to be pseudo-romantic or just therapeutic to have this kind of person at work? Either way, I think I need to get me one for morning coffee.

Does the powerlessness of it bother you sometimes?

I've been feeling that way lately. Like I can put in all the effort I want finding places to hang out, improving my conversational skills, etc, but I can just as easily wind up with nothing as something (and I wind up with a whole lot more nothing). If you don't try enough, then that's to...

    Podcasts

Has anyone gotten into these as a form of entertainment? Any recommendations? I've tried: Rabbits - Fictional mystery podcast. Song Exploder - Analyzing individual songs. MogTalk - Podcast for Final Fantasy XIV game.

    Pets?

I've been looking at some pets I might like and I'm deciding between budgies, which are supposed to be easy birds for beginners, and just a regular cat from a shelter. How many here have pets or work around animals, or in nature?

Feeling like you break everything you touch?

Firstly, I know it's not rational, or even possible. But recently I left a job that was starting to fall apart with a manager HR was looking to fire. I went on several dates with a really nice guy, and then he decided his trust issues were too severe and he wasn't ready for a relationship. Etc...

How do you placate people who are actively looking to disagree and argue?

This is one of the more touchy issues for me. I'm usually happy to go along, but sometimes I meet people who seem determined to make a scene. A good example right now is my manager. She always seems to be looking for a fight (and has gotten into a few with customers). She once insisted that our...

    Creative hobbies

Currently my main one is knitting (just picked up enough yarn for another two scarves), and music. Anyone been into anything crafty or creative lately?

    Favorite candy cane flavors

The grocery store here has a bunch of fruit flavors. I got to try watermelon and pina colada.

    Masking loneliness

I spend a lot of time being busy in place of meeting people. Things to learn and projects to do. I picked up instruments, crafts, etc. I've got a weekend and a few days in my new apartment with no Internet access outside of my phone. Without such a close connection to online communities and...

Best time-killers on a slow night?

For me it's Mahjong, or card games like Hearthstone.

    Life lessons from 2017?

We've got a month left. I'm not going to ask what your resolutions are, but maybe this would be fun to think about. 1. I will forget to use vegetables I buy unless they're frozen, canned, or going into stir-fry that night. 2. Gardening is incredibly therapeutic. Also, I can't do it and should...

Article from last year: A study one-sided friendships

I was doing some late night, can't-fall-asleep-so-I-might-as-well-get up browsing when I came across this article: http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/13/health/one-sided-friendships/ Basically, it talks about studies that were done where researchers examined how many participants named as their...

    NaNoWriMo? Any participants this year?

Just curious. NaNoWriMo is an event throughout the month of November where people try to complete a 50,000 word novel draft. They have a website and everything. I was thinking of giving it a try and maybe visiting some local write-ins to see if I can meet some people.

Favorite Halloween candies? Anyone else like candy corn?

I swear I'm not being held hostage when I say I like a bit of candy corn...

What online community have you been in the longest?

I've been thinking back and I think this is the longest-running site I'm still a member of. Two of the ones I visited in the early 2000's shut down. Sometimes I don't have much to say, but I'm still checking in. Sad that I still need it after almost 6 years, though.

If you work, do you talk much to others? Does it change anything?

This is something I've been curious about.  I was at my loneliest in college when I was studying in a field that attracted a lot of shy, introverted people. People rarely talked to each other, let alone me, so my sense of isolation only increased and I didn't leave with any friends. I only...

Do people become less interested in making friends with age?

Am I the only one who notices this? Making friends in high school wasn't easy, but it seemed like everyone wanted them. Everyone wanted people to spend weekends with, to go out with, to talk to on the phone or see face to face over a good meal. No one had "too many friends" or "not enough time"...
