Why do I fight?
What am I protecting?
An endless conflict with no end
I was born into this world crying
What honor is there in that
Why do I fight to go on?

There is no future for the dead
It ended as soon as I was born.
As the years drifted, the past was buried
In the frozen cold hearts of man.

The tragedies I remember
And commemorate with tears
Leaving scars that never healed
That solitude of death
A lifetime of pain
Is that what I look forward to.

What peace is made when the sins of the past
Still weigh heavy on the mind
Is innocence really ignorance?

What justice can be found?
When even children hate
discriminate
judge
Who are we to judge
Anyone but ourselves?

Where can freedom and peace be found?
In a world of war and destruction
Must we continue to tread this well-worn path?

We try to put a meaning
To why we must continue to fight
When the cost is always numbed and leaves someone alone to grieve

Very nice poem! I also feel, often, that life is a constant struggle and battle at times. It can be so exhausting!
