So being a nerd right now i thought i'd like to humor you folks with a math joke i learned last quarter. ready to get your minds blown? :]
okay firstly we all can agree that 2+2=2+2+0 right?
now we'll let x be any non-zero number and set x=y
So:
x=y
x^2=xy is correct
x^2-y^2=xy-y^2 is also correct
now we're gonna factor
(x+y)(x-y)=y(x-y)
so now the (x-y) on both sides will cancel out resulting in
x+y=y
can also be expressed as:
2y=y
2=1
1=0
now remember 2+2=2+2+0 right? now lets apply the proof 1=0
2+2+0=2+2+1=5
Thus 2+2=5 :]
can you figure out what is wrong in this problem?
(bonus points to whoever can name the originator of this "proof")
first person to figure it out gets this plate of cookies
