Currently studying Prions in my Biomedical Program. Thought this may be of interest to provide awareness on how microorganisms, such as Prions, can affect mental health.

Prions readily resist changes temperatures, pH, and other variables -- marking them as a high-risk factor to humans if contracted. Prions may or may not be apart of our normal flora (bacteria that flourishes naturally within our bodies). Harm occurs when the protein sequences are afflicted and begin to fold -- creating a domino-like effect and causing "plaques" (or holes) to form in afflicted tissues. Brain tissues are susceptible to damage, therefore linking a strong connection between mental illnesses and Prions.
