I guess I can even go lower, I mean opening up more about myself and
reaching out for 'help'. I does make me feel pathetic. Why I opened this
thread is because I am looking for someone to speak to. Preferably
someone who I have something in common with, but as far as we can talk
about anything it would be fine with me anyway.

And I mean really to speak on Skype or somewhere, maybe even using the
webcam if we feel comfortable later on, so not just typing and chatting
somewhere. Chatting/texting is fine, too, but sometimes it feels rather
frustrating not to be able to talk, to have some conversation about
something like how was your day, what will you do tomorrow, what do you
think about politics,a news you just read or really anything that we can
come up with.

I might add English is my second language and though I have been living in
England for years, I barely have the chance to use it extensively, which
sometimes feels really frustrating even apart from the fact that I feel,
lonely, too. This also makes me shy and my self-esteem and confidence
are down the drain. I have been watching English speaking TV channels
and films for like 5 years now and been reading a lot so my passive
knowledge is developed greatly, my active speaking skills are stalled and
when I do need to speak sometimes I feel myself bad because I find myself
looking for words I know of, struggling to express myself the way I want
to.

I even went to sites where you can hire English teachers, but it just
made me feel more miserable and pathetic because I realized soon I don't
want to speak with a teacher I just want to talk to a friend. And that
friend doesn't need to be a born and bred English speaking person, as I am
not looking for a free language lesson, anyone who can interact in English
are welcome. Hope to meet you soon.

Hey PeteBurger, try out chat. A group of us Skype sometimes, but there are always people on there to talk to!

Thanks for the advice. I tried it out on the day I registered here and will check back there.

Quick update: Yesterday I had a two hour long Skype video call with a complete 'stranger' and
first I was really afraid of what I got myself into, but actually I haven't felt so good for a long time
just by being able to talk to someone. It was quite refreshing and liberating. :)

I might add it wasn't my intention scaring away people by saying I 'only' want
to voice chat. I have already chatted with a few people by just typing, and
met some really nice folks. So if someone doesn't feel comfortable with the
idea of voice/video chat is still welcome. I hope it cleared that up. :)

Yay! I was a little scared and quiet when chatting with people on skype at first, but now I am comfortable and I don't shut up! :D
