It would be great if we could set up a pen pal network for people to find other that are similar to them to email with etc.

Isn't that kind of what the networking section is for? There have been pen pal threads in there before. Not sure if there's a general one though. Start one and see if it takes off.

I'd be happy to figure out a way and coordinate matching people up if who runs this board is ok with that. It would probably involve some type of survey regarding people's interests and preferences.
