A few days ago my father was fishing at the mouth of a local river and caught a carp that they weighed in at about 40 lbs. I checked the anglers association registry (which keeps track of prize catches) and the only report I could find of a prize carp being caught on that river was in 2007. That carp was 31.6 lbs. My father's catch might well be a once in a lifetime event for this type of fish, on this body of water, for any one fisherman.

I wasn't there, but he managed to get three photos with his phone. I've seen one of them and yeah, it's a humonbous carp. I've never even heard of a bigger one.

My father always releases his catches and has been doing so for decades. I don't know whether fish caught in that body of water would be safe to eat, anyway.
