I just had a very strange experience, unusually today I decided I was going to go to bed extremely early today and surprisingly managed to get to sleep promptly.

I was having a dream and in the dream I was exploring some kind of cathedral. I spent the majority of the dream just exploring, observing, I remember this dream having a very scarce amount of people in this very large cathedral, and these people had strange faces which lacks any kind of detail or expression. Very much from a childhood morning cartoon I watched as a kid called 'Hey Arthur'. I know cathedrals are old and built and designed extremely well but this one gave me the impression I was back in time.

The dream progresses and I end up deep underground in what I assume is the basement, it was just a labyrinth of dark and gloomy tunnels and water leaking everywhere. There were people in these tunnels too but they had expressions and there was a man and a woman. The women looked like some kind of Doctor like a lab kind of Doctor with the white coat, and the man looked like some injured soldier. This women is trying to seduce me to stop me exploring a set of stairs that goes deeper underground, however I ignore her and continue exploring but she follows, now these leaks are like waterfalls and then somehow me and this woman are engaging in some kind of "activity".

Essentially there was nothing weird about this dream it felt clearly like a unrealistic dream. I could hear a voice waking me up and I thought for a second that I had indeed woken up, only to find myself in another dream, however the dream felt light and I was clearly conscious of the fact that I was dreaming.

I am in some kind of underground cellar and I can still hear the waterfalls in the background, and Judi Dench's voice is talking to me about my dream (I clearly knew it was Judi Dench). She was asking for details about what I saw and we are going through the whole dream. I am still asleep yet consciously I am working out all the small subtle clues and events that I was completely unaware of it was like I was solving a mystery within the dream and I was conveying these things to her.

All these small details and clues led to some plot of the church kidnapping people and holding them in cellars, Judi is going crazy at this point asking why these people are being held. I am trying intently to focus on the dream and I remember seeing people tied up being escorted out into the sewers, the guards had these faces like an English Bulldog. Again Judi is impatiently asking me for what purpose. I am trying very hard scanning back through the entire dream of my exploration looking for clues and I find myself in one of these cellars and there is some woman and an old man with a rabbit like face tied up and I can see the door which has tiny bits of light coming through the corners, and I recognise it as my bedroom door, and I hear the door creak open and the light come through. I assume it is just my mother coming to check on me, (I know that I am in a dream, so I continue to keep my eyes closed and not wake up) then the shade of darkness you get when you close your eyes changed and the it felt like a shadow had come over me and an arm reach and touch my shoulder. I instantly jerked up, woke up expecting to see my mother there, but the room was empty.

My heart was beating like crazy, all the details of the dream were so clear, one after another just keep popping through my head. I tried to get back to sleep instantly in hopes of finding out where these people were going. But I just couldn't sleep my stomach and my chest felt so strange, my mouth was dry and I felt myself breathing fast. So I got up and got some water and couldn't get back to sleep, so I thought I would write down what I saw, something I've never done but I couldn't help feel this dream was trying to tell me something. (Not don't go to church this Sunday(I don't go to church anyway I am not religious)).

It's strange now though as I was writing this I am struggling to recall details, I remember someone important was at the cathedral, I can't remember who but this allowed Judi to identify which cathedral it was (though it wasn't a real cathedral as I have visited only one in my lifetime for a school trip and it was nothing as spectacular and as grand as the one in my dream.

I remember the reason behind so few people was because there were allowing only a select few to access the cathedral for fear of an assassin. They didn't want to let anyone in at all but feared the people would grow suspicious if they did not.

I remember a blue crown and that's all I can remember but i know there was a lot more.

So this really is just a mountain of text that is complete nonsense, but honestly this dream felt real and I am certain it was trying to tell me something important, hence me trying to write down as much detail as I could remember. Also I was certain my door opened and someone walked into my room, my senses were all functioning and I was fully aware of them (So I thought)

What do you think? Anyone else every experienced dreams like this, or a dream where you are able to think normally while going through the dream. It really felt pretty intense.

Interesting... perhaps this is what it was.

It was more than that, and your unconscious knows this. We really can't handle the truth very well. You may be able to more than others. Most run from their shadow. You went down the stairs.

You think so? Very strange because in real life I do anything to actively avoid anything unusual or some kind of situation. Though the part I went down the stairs for was part of the unconscious part, if I was conscious I totally would of been like:

Go down stairs or hot doctor
Go down or hot doctor
Go down on hot doctor

I can usually trace dream imagery to things or events I have seen in reality... it's like the brain stores, compresses things you have seen or maybe experienced..things you have maybe sought an explanation for, they sink into the psychi, form interconnects with stuff lurking in the subconscious and then release in full HD Wondervision leaving you either confused or with a sense of relief...I dreamt recently my room was on fire..flames licking around the walls and ceilings and I did wonder if it was reality or a dream decided it was the latter cos I couldn't be bothered waking up to check.....I think in part it was combined stored images of canadian forest fires which I actually thought were staggeringly beautiful in their destruction and periodically wondering if I've turned off the gas hob : )

Interesting dream. I hate those ones where you feel like someone is in the room with you. Hard to get back to sleep after that without getting up to check everything. What were you doing before you went to sleep, were you reading a book or watching something on TV or playing a video game like Assassins Creed? Sometimes I find what I do before going to sleep can have an affect on my dreams.

Joka, you were accessing your own unconscious big time! Only you can identify what descending into the earth beneath a cathedral means and what the woman was, what the waterfalls mean and what's going on with people being kidnapped and held in the cellars. Those images push buttons for me that just say: Significant!

I agree with Carl Jung that dreams are to individual people what myths are to cultures.....let's pay attention to our dreams!

Lucid dreaming like what you experienced is a priceless gift. It's happened with me a few times. If it happens to you again, try and proactively influence what's going to occur in the dream state....it can work, one can decide to walk through the door, turn and face the pursuer, follow the alluring clues.....whatever one's personal symbology presents to one.

Hello fellow Jungian!

I applied the methods of achieving lucidity. I not only knew I was dreaming, I changed the dream. I immediately felt like I had missed out on a lesson. I went back to letting the dreams guide me.

So I am going to hell and going to be trapped there forever.

Why me?

I hope you know that these images are metaphors. I suggest reading Man and His Symbols. BTW, It's for women too.

I'd like to apologize on behalf of men for the masculinization of the English language. I'm also sorry that machines are referred to in the feminine.

I must be conditioned to some degree because - like Sci-Fi - I thought of Assassins Creed when cathedrals were mentioned...

Quite the trip you had there though. I had a handful of lucid dreams so far and it's really fascinating to be aware and (at best) in control witin the dreamscape. Even if it happens to be a nightmare. You take what you can get, but it's probably much harder to gain aware in a bad dream where you often feel powerless, exposed and lacking in control. Had my share of false awakenings too. Going through multiple "dream layers" is rather confusing.

You are certainly not going to Hell, but you are processing something in that head of yours. Like constant stranger said, it's your job to untangle that mess and correctly interpret how certain symbols in your dream relate to your life, inner conflicts and the whole shebang.

Good suggestion. There are common motifs/metaphors that explain how we subconsciously process internal conflicts and the likes within our dreams.

Off-topic...I don't think this distinction is really necessary and therefore wouldn't apologize. The word "man" signifies human foremostly, not the male human. A woman is still a (hu)man, but also a wo(mb)man. And machines are referred to as females as a matter of respect. Besides, when we humanize a machine we don't treat it worse, right?

You could look at it that way if you wish, but there could be another viewpoint....the earth is a place of sanctuary, fertility and rebirth as well.

And in Nature the only thing that is forever are the cycles of beginning, ending and new beginnings, on and on......
