I write poetry sometimes...not often enough
This is a poem I wrote for a workshop
The assignment was to write three poems about yourself (harder than it seems)
visually, conceptually, and a combination of the two
This is the combination poem
I hope you like it

Like a spoon in a glass of water
The mirror's image is distorted
Ironically, our reflection appears to us
Just as it does to a stranger
My graying hair and occasional limp
May make me seem older than I really am
But we add to what we see
What we know to be true
So we never really look like
The person others think we are
And then there is the other me
The one invisible to everyone
Yet I think they can tell
The me that feels insecure
Even in a crowd of mes
Or my esoteric self
That distances me from my friends
All these and more
So many facets like a diamond
They are all degrees of me
And I have to keep reminding myself
That I am in my own way, unique
Just like everyone else
