I am seeing a new therapist because my old therapist said he can no longer treat me, he did not think he was helping anymore. So I have a new therapist now and so far there is no improvement. I went back on medication in December of last year and every medication they gave me since then, I have not responded to. I gave each of them roughly 4 weeks, but did not continue them because they either made me worse, the side effects were too much, and on top of it none of them helped. I was hospitalized back in February, and they changed both my meds at the same time and that did nothing as well. I am really starting to think that no medication will work for me, and my brain is taking all the hits every time they raise or lower the dose, or they change the meds. I am at the point where I do not even feel like trying any new medications. Maybe going off them and trying some alternative treatments. I am seeing my therapist twice a week and still on medication, so I may continue to try different meds, but I don't really know what to do. I am going to try though.

Did you ever think that maybe your drinking could be making the meds not work? It can have that effect.

yes, this happens.

Also, are we talking about anti depressants? if that's the case, four weeks is usually the period they give for it to start working so you wouldn't feel any improvements before that. If that's the case, nowadays the only thing most doctors prescribe are SSRIs which are definitely safer but because they're too precise into working with serotonin, they don't help people who might have other kinds of chemical imbalance so older types of anti depressant drugs might work best - even though they're a bit scarier and can even mess with your diet.
If you're taking about low dose sedatives, unless you have really serious paranoia/anxiety syndromes I'd not recommend continuing with medication... that can really erase your whole personality.

The only thing I think you shouldn't give up is therapy even if you're trying new things. What I'd suggest in regards to that is that you try to find the absolute root of most of your issues (disregarding the biological ones then) and find a therapist that is a specialist in the treatment of the things you want to change the most.

Hi, I don't have any experience with medical depression and this might not help but I still want to say that I think it's really great that you still came here to talk about it. I want to believe it means you haven't given up and I hope you don't. I had medical problems since puberty causing me to be overweight and have skin problems, I tried various things for decades with no results but recently I finally came across a food regime and medication that the doctor's have been asking me to use for a while and I finally started losing weight and having my skin clear up. Good luck and I hope you find some type of solution that can give you real hope.
