Society should never go to War.
Have you ever been affected by War? We all have in some way or another. Human civilization has seen countless of wars throughout thousands of years. But it does not mean it has to continue that way. I believe after all we have seen and learned about war throughout thousands of years, it is time we put an end to war. War causes more harm than it solves problems. War takes the lives of innocents, causes financial instability, and harms the environment. If only governments could see through each other’s differences and negotiate properly then we would save thousands of lives, millions of dollars, and stop harming the environment.

Have you ever lost a loved one in War? Imagine what war must be like on the other side. War does not only cause death but it also breaks homes of families involved in War. War also traumatizes its victims, leaving them with nightmares and ruins their lives. Some soldiers come back from war only to be homeless after giving up their lives to serve their country. These poor soldiers are jut used by the government and after they are treated without dignity. Is this what war is supposed to solve? I think not.

War costs trillions of dollars! Yes, not billions but trillions! According to a study through Brown University’s Watson Institute of International and Public Affairs, government spending on the military, diplomacy, foreign aid, homeland security and services to veterans have cost U.S. taxpayers upward of $4.79 trillion in post-Sept. 11 era (Shinkman). Imagine trillions of dollars! How much of that money could have been spent on Guam alone and how much good it would have done? We could feed the homeless with not even half of that money! We could spend billions on advancing education and medicine. Clearly it would be more beneficial if war was altogether avoided.

War is not only harmful but destructive to the environment. The burning of structures and of oil fields have caused a dramatic increase in air quality. Agent Orange, a gas used in the Vietnam War is not only harmful to humans but to the environment as well. Testing of nuclear weapons is also harmful to the environment causing radioactive damage. War is destructive. There is nothing good about war for the environment.

There is nothing good about war, that is why it should be stopped. From lives, to money, to the environment, War is detrimental to society. It is the result of pride, greed and arrogance. It needs to stop. We should find better solutions to War through diplomacy and we need to see that nationalistic pride is no reason to go to war. Rather we should seek to understand each other.
