Hope to hear your experience.
Mine was many years ago when Russia first gave independence to some of its state. I met a Russian guy in a business conference and he invited me to Turkmenistan to meet some officials. Hahaha ... the country doesn't even have a proper immigration office yet. When I asked my Russian friend about the visa requirements? He sent me a fax copy of a dinner serviette with Russians hand writing and a stamp. I journeyed to the capital and was whisked into the arrival hall of the airport. Hahaha.
