I was a member here under a different name a few months back, grew kind of disillusioned with the place and left. I’d actually found a great person to chat with, but they kept disappearing for months at a time, and now have presumably gone AWOL for good. Honestly, I see no reason to expect any alternative outcome this time around, but hey, loneliness, amirite?

Apologies for the cynicism. 🤦🏻‍♀️

My name is Kelly. I suppose I’m somewhat of a Christian existentialist.

I like poetry, art, cinema. Anything that adequately and beautifully illustrates the tragedy and absurdism of the human condition.

I’m free to go more in depth in PM if anyone is interested or just wants to shoot the ish. I enjoy getting to know others.

Hope you’re all doing well.

(I'm a somewhat of a Christian hermit... Succot is coming. I'll possibly spend a week in a tent, in my bedroom, sleeping in a sleeping bag. ' Have been trying (or ' think I should try) to understand the timing of the god, and the sabbat...)

Welcome Kelly. I'm (most unfortunately) in Brazil. Gustavo is my name, and I'm a Latinist, so I like ancient Roman literature and things in general, which is what I've been studying by myself since I concluded my course at university.

I hope you enjoy it here.

Hello, Kelly.

Eh, the cyncism often comes along with the loneliness. No apologies needed.

Your interests are well, very interesting.. :D Hope to see you around more this time around and most certainly your depth and what diversity you have to share to the class of lonelys here if the opportunity arises. Welcome back! :)

Welcome! I like cinema too.

What's a Christian existentialist?

Hrm. I considered it and upon looking up the actual definition of an existentialist, I’d have to conclude that I am in fact, not one. At least, not anymore — since it technically conflicts with the Christian way.

Not necessarily. I mean, "classical" 'existencialism', yes, it does, the Existencialism as a philosophical doctrine, Sartre and these guys. The word can though be applied to other concepts if it is related to the meaning of its route, 'existence', 'to exist'. The fact that you defined yourself as a Christian existencialist means that it can be applied, though it may not have quite been defined as yet, it certainly is a combination that wasn't conflicting in your mind, until you went to search for the definition of Existencialism, which led you to those guys' philosophy which, indeed, have nothing to do with Christianity, in their way, since they're more into atheism.

I think.

The term Christian existencialist is so plausible that it's almost guessable as to what it means even without anyone defining it (and if we get rid of any relations to Existencialism in philosophy). So, perhaps you can continue to define yourself as such. lol
