It might sound odd but I sort of need to feel that someone out there understands something that happened to me recently.

I broke my violin.

Not on purpose, obviously. It just - broke. It's unfixable.

Which has left me, effectively, grieving for an instrument. My family have expressed their sympathies but they don't understand. Neither of them play anything. Neither of them have something that's so integral to how and who they are that it's absence is an undefinable but absolute loss.

Yes - I can buy another one.

That's not the point.

The point is - THAT one - the one I've played with for LITERALLY most of my life is gone. Can never come back.

So... anyone out there understand that?

I had same feeling with my favourite guitar.
I needed to sell it to pay collage.
And it broke my heart. :/
I see that as relationship breakup. Same boat. XD
Even if people would laugh at that. xD

I think there are lots of people who can sympathise with this kind of feeling, whether it's about an instrument or something else. It must be especially hard when it's something so particular as a violin, I can't pretend to know much about music but people do say each is different and that you can't replace like with like very easily, if at all.

That said, an end is a new beginning and who knows what the future holds.
