New guy

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've joined an on-line community, but I guess the thing to do is make a little intro post, right?

So... here's a bit of a background. I'm a twenty-five year old male from the north eastern section of the US, and I suppose I'm looking for a place where I can find a little understanding. I just started my own business, I teach part-time at the college level, and I have an academic background that tends to gives me a pretty negative outlook when it comes to social interaction. Despite that, I do still try to fit in and socialize, but I never seem to get anywhere - particularly with women. After trying various solutions, the only conclusion I can draw is that I fail for superficial reasons since... and I hope this doesn't sound arrogant... I'm a pretty well rounded guy otherwise.

Do you mean your negative outlook is simply a corollary of your academic work or is it influenced by it directly? i.e. is your chosen field sociology or similar and has it nurtured cynicism, or does your workload prohibit socialising to some extent?

Hmmm, sounds very familiar...!
Not arrogant, just observant. I tend to think the same way, mostly because I'm conscious of my flaws and am constantly trying to improve myself.
