Oh no sounds sad, I deffo do not want a future like that, I know so many elders, and none are like that, even my mums not like that lol She has enjoyed everything about ageing a part from the fear and paranoia of getting wrinkles. I was like.. pretty sure theres worst to come mum lol but I do look forward to the experience, to the exit as much as the journey, if that makes sense...

It didn't say it was bad. 😂
The typical experience is thinking: "That'll never happen to me...will it? No, it won't..."
And then it does. 😂

Look, the benefits I got out of it are:
For one thing, I'm not nearly as angry as I used to be.
I had pretty hardcore rage problems when I was younger, I've had them my whole life, and thank crap I got a good head on my shoulders because that's really what's kept me out of getting into situations that could've totally destroyed my life. I'm way more mellow these days. Short of the fact that I work like a madman, I'm basically like a hippie in attitude.
For another thing, I'm quite a bit more learned and enjoy teaching people things when the opportunity presents itself. It's really interesting to see another person take that information and put their own spin on it, and its actually made me more optimistic about life.
You learn what to do by figuring out what not to do in life, and as you get older it's just a process of elimination.
Life throws you a curveball every now and then, and you've gotta improvise your way through it.
The general rule of thumb is: It's better to be over-prepared, than unprepared.
And some stuff you'll just be like "oh, well honeysuckle I didn't see this coming" which is fine, provided you develop the ability to take a step back, take a few breaths, and try to look at the situation objectively. Which gets easier to do over time.

Awh I like the benefits, I talk about ageing a lot to people, I research dying, idky I think its like mental preparation. Some... well most, describe to me a full life, they tell me not to be afraid of throwing caution to the wind every now and then...

My dad described how losing his first wife crushed him, he thought he'd never love again, then he met my mum and he explained she turned his divorce into the best moment of his life...I wanna experience that, like something that melted me... becoming the best thing that ever happened to me over time, that just sounds so magical. That's the ups and downs... I long for.

Sometimes I look at decisions, and I think... although they hurt, maybe the result was for the best? Maybe life turned it around. I mean sure, some hurt and theres no bloody benefit, but I just pray one day the worst day of my life will take a spin... not sure if it ever will though.

I think I'll always be a 17 year old boy, last time I took my daughter to dinner she told me at least 3 times " behave yourself or we're going straight home now! "
I'm telling you, man. Kids; no appreciation for the very important things we try to teach them....😈

EDIT: On an unrelated note, am I the only one who read the title and started hearing porn music in my head? 😈

I'll never experience what a social circle or dating feels like as a young person, and I'll almost certainly never have kids either. An empty life. Nothing to look back on and sure as hell nothing to look ahead to.

I can't stand being around large groups of other middle aged people. These are my peers? My mind can barely process that. I don't relate and have to get away or become seriously depressed.

It might be different if you had most the typical life experiences, but it's a struggle to see positives to aging as an old virgin with less life lived than an average 20 year old. Sorry but I can't be light hearted about it, and I refuse to buy into the "life is a journey" BS from people who already got most of what they wanted.

Yeah, I am hoping to age like my mum with no health issues and still able to dance and blah blah

But do you sometimes imagine how it will be, to be a grandmother? Like baking cookies for your grandkids lolz Idk.. I know it's just rose tinted glasses but I honestly think it could be such an experience
I turned 50 in November. My oldest son turns 30 next month. He and his 28 year old brother have absolutely NO desire to have children.

Getting older only sucks because sometimes your mind doesn't realize what your body can't quite do. Hahaha

Like, I lift weights and I try to run. I stay active. However, there are days I hurt... just ALL over. haha And, as Callie mentioned, at about 42, my thyroid started messing with my life. Even 8 years later, I'm still trying to find my balance. (Mostly because the Endocrinologists blow chunks here locally)

I absolutely LOVE keeping in touch with the group of 20something kids I worked with who were active duty when I came back as a civilian at 30 years to my old base. They would make fun of my old lady shoes and lack of make up.... they now have kids and civilian careers and are all approaching, if not past 40 and they finally GET it!!

For me:
Getting older is all about knowing who you are and not apologizing or trying to hide it.
Getting older is about learning from your mistakes and just trying to be better than you were yesterday.
Getting older is about being secure enough on the bank that you can try to help pull others out of the gutter.
Getting older is about saying what you mean and meaning what you say.

And someday... maybe my 19 year old will bring me grandbabies and I can give them ALL the candy and send them home wired up. If not, I'll continue to be a grand-dog-mom.

Just enjoy the ride @CenotaphGirl!!

I hope you can enjoy some of it though! I hope one section of it gets painted pink and blue 😇

I honestly wanna be able to say, I have a son and a daughter turning 30 one day... that'll be music to my ears...

I mean I know its not all rainbows, and im not looking forward to my future saggy boobs thats for sure.. just mine not implying anyone else would have my awful anticipated luck. But Im looking forward to the new scars, to the new experiences, labour pains, and well... everything... you know? I cant wait to see how my story will end, as sad as it sounds.

I don't want to get old. I haven't even lived yet. I only exist. My whole life i wait for something to happen and then i would start living a normal life. Things happen but not what i expected and now it's too late for me.

But say you could flash forward, and see your future self... maybe with 1 child that is now where you are, what do you think that would that make you feel?

We're getting too old to have kids. The idea that men can continue to father children well into middle and old age is because of celebrities like Mick Jagger who probably had every bizarre fertility treatment imaginable. It takes 4 times as a long for a couple of conceive when the man is 45 vs 25 - and that's with a much younger woman. Not wanting to be graphic but our 'boys' are as depressed as we are. They ain't swimming nowhere fast.

I think it's also about how the woman is feeling about the experience. If she doesn't really like the guy, well, then her body takes certain protective measures..... Ha! ha!

I'd invest in the technology for this lmao

Slowly but surely… its becoming a reality, the idea of waking up at 60 feels sooo far and yet so close.
