Are thank you notes out of style?

"According to recent research, some 75 percent of Americans believe thank you notes to be antiquated and obsolete—though it's worth noting that this leaves a full quarter of Americans who still expect a thank you note when they give a gift." I am definitely in favor of thank you notes! With so many Portals to me, there are no excuses. What say you? Should we stop sending gifts if we don't receive a thank you?

I am of the mind that if you give a gift, you shouldn't expect anything back. That defeats the altruism aspect of it. If they're thankful they'll just tell ya.

I don't expect anything, but to me, a verbal thank you is more than enough.

I like handwritten notes/letters of any kind, a bit sad thought that nowadays they are viewed as "obsolete"
