How old is too old?

So I've been having a look around and have to say that there are some really great posts around that have really made me sit back and think at times. However, some of these posts were posted quite some time ago and seem rather old.

So the question is, how old is too old for a post to be replied too?

I don't think any thread is too old to be resurrected. It's always interesting to gain new insight on any topic.

I only reply to ones that are a month old or maybe 2 at best. Because it seems a lot of people create a post, then never stay to receive the answer or advice they've wanted to get from folk on the forum. It's like a drive-by, but the forum edition

As Tryingtosurvive said, the person who created the thread on older posts is often gone, so anything aimed specifically at them may not reach them. You can always check to see when they were last on the forum.

If your response is not solely for the OP then the age of the thread shouldn't make any difference. Often a conversation can continue long after the thread creator has left the forum and still have some value to other readers.

Thanks for your responses. I've been reading through quite a few of the posts and while I notice that some are quite old and completely get the original poster may longer have the problem (or may no longer be using the site to get a response), some have triggered thoughts and feelings and writing those down may just help with my own insecurities etc.

I've bumped lots of old threads in my time. I've never understood the aversion some people have to doing that. It's like, sure, the thread is old, and the OP is probably gone, but you never know who it could be relevant to, or what thoughts it could inspire, so what difference does the age of the thread really make?

I think you should just do whatever you want, as long as it isn't harmful.

The search feature is a vital part of the forum that no one seems to know about. When is Search Feature Awareness Month?

I necropost a lot. The only time I have issues with it is when people bump welcome threads and welcome someone who hasn't even been here for years and years. lol Everything else is fair game, IMO.
You may run into people who sometimes have issues with their threads being bumped because they don't want to remember that they posted it, but that doesn't happen too often. Besides, it can be a good reminder for how far you've come if it's really old.

Some people live by and look for answers in a few books written thousands of years ago.
You know, pre-internet days. I haven't noticed any threads here quite that old though.
