Guess.
Hmm who is up for a moral dilemma?

Okay okay so you have 2 children and you work in the press, none of your stories have sold recently and things are getting desperate at home, a high profile man who recently passed away had an affair on his wife and you have the photos and story of a life time… would you release the story and feed your family or would you keep the story to yourself to save his grieving family from further trauma ?

I might sound like an *******, but I would sell him out.

Yes the family might be affected, and a lot of people will be hurt, but if i have children i'll put them above anything else. I wouldn't want them to go hungry.

If I worked for the papers I wouldn’t have any morals so I wouldn’t spend a second debating it - I’d sell him out

If for some miracle I had morals working for a paper, no, I wouldn’t. Destroying other people’s lives for my own benefit isn’t right and leads down an awful path. Won’t the next day be bad for my kids yet again, so I’d need to dig up more trash to sell. It’s a never ending cycle of destruction.

You know this is interesting! I think theres not much i wouldn't do to keep my household out of desperate situations.

Why, isn't there anything actually newsworthy besides a grieving widow and her husband's past affairs?
Pretty sure journalism used to aim higher than the gossip columns.
So you would wait for a story you that may or may not sell again, you’ve been working hard with little reward recently and this has landed on your lap, thus the moral dilemma no right or wrong answers 😇

This is interesting, do you think the press in general have to be cold? Could you look at it as you are a defender of the truth? You see countless pages describing this man as a family man and a honourable gentleman but you know otherwise and this knowledge alone will feed you and your family for a very long time

Nope, I'd try to find a story that IS actual news that might interest people. Sure, gossip sells, people enjoy perving into other people's lives, that why reality tv makes so much money.
But, just as you can ask if the later actually tv...is the former actually news?
Pretty sure there's children still being forced to work for 10 cents a day in sweatshops in North Lybia who would beg to differ.
If you don't have journalistic integrity, you shouldn't consider yourself a journalist.

Feed the family? I do factory work for that.

@CenotaphGirl they don’t have to be cold, but they thrive on drama, fear-mongery, controversy, etc. I don’t see newspapers as a defender of any truth, except the truth that the owners want to spruik. I don’t really subscribe to these hypothetical situations, so I shouldn’t have said anything.

Yeah gossip tabloids are really pathetic lol, can't even call them real journalists. Real journalists bring power to the people with information. No power with gossip.

But if our last resort was destroying a family, what did the ''fictional gossip journalist'' attempt before i wonder.

I see ! I think society has made it so easy to see gossip as the new news, sometimes all I can see is things on royals, some celebs private life, above real historic moments

Oh hey this is just meant to be light hearted, thanks for taking the time despite this not being your kind of thing ✨

Yeahh this is true, maybe a story around the closure of the community soup kitchen that just went no where

Sell him out, deffo, nobody buys papers anymore so if they wanna give me a shedload of money for something a handful of dinosaurs may read I'm in innit.
Wayyy! Loool this made me laugh

journalism and writing isn't for everyone, maybe the character should just make a career switch :p
I'd suggest Deliveroo those guys are making proper money and you get a free moped and if you're a former tabloid journalist you probably have no guilty feelings about stealing the odd takeaway to feed your 2 kids.

They staple the bags shut now 🙈🙈🙈
See this is another way modern tech has screwed you kids, back when I was a struggling musician you could phone Pizza Hut order a Pizza to collect and not pick it up, then hang around their backdoor for an hour or so and blag it off them for free when they went to put it in the rubbish.

Same thing applies to the chippy with me. If I go there 5 minutes before closing I get more goodies for free as they want to get rid of the last bits of stock🤣.

I can understand having a couple of kids to feed, and being in a financially tight situation. I completely understand why people do what they do to get by in that situation, no judgment. Now on a personal level though, I'd probably shoot myself before I ever worked for the press. I'd probably go do something like go back to college for medicine and in a niche specialist field, or engineering and fabrication. I'm just not social enough to be a reporter and work in that field.

This is so interesting Apexieee, i feel sometimes it can be similar to modelling like you enter the industry and think I am going to be different, i am going to be raw real blah blah but before you know it you are another photoshopped lie. Its like the machine is too big to fix on your own

Yea, I did it so often one night the girl came out just handed me the pizza and said " I put a salad in there too, you look like you need the vitamins"
Wow no way Randomguy I cant believe this was a thing ✨
