18 Years is a long time, and it's also relatively short.

For whatever my opinion is worth, and from what little I know, I think one could do a lot worse than the only bond being one's children. Loneliness is still an unpleasant feeling though..

Loneliness sucks. I have a PhD in that.

But you have your kids.
And at least your wife wanted you at one time.
I have never had that.
So it's all relative.
Your wife wanted you for you...and if you split up...another female will as well.
I've only ever had females that wanted money from me. And only that.
Not saying I have it worse.
Worse is relative.
Just saying your life is not so bad from my perspective.
