The Mortal Storm (1940)

University professor Victor Roth leads a contented life with
family and friends in the south German Alps of 1933. This
changes quickly and dramatically once Adolf Hitler comes to
power. Most of the town embraces the new creed while a few
friends such as Martin Breitner do not.... (IMDB)

I rewatched the Cloverfield movies.
John Goodman in the second one very much reminds me of my best friend.
I love the man, I do, but he's a bit neurotic, even for me.
The 3rd one really reminded me of the Philadelphia Experiment. reports.
The 1st movie wasn't bad, which is why I kept going with them, and it reminded me of The Mist.
The monsters in the 2nd one though, probably freaked me out the most, definitely Giger-inspired.
