In my mind
The number one reason, forgive me I'm just the messenger, I'm not fat. Actually I have always had less then 5% body fat. The military listed me as less the 2%. Yes that's correct. But, I don't look it. I just look slim and in shape. Althought the average over weight person identifies me as skinny. Anyway, it's easy to stay healthy when you are slim and eating properly.

People that get very ill from Covid have underlying issues. Mostly it's over weight people and their results from being overweight. It turns out that Covid loves to hang out in fat cells:

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2021-12-coronavirus-aim-fat-cells.html

"The latest findings may prove particularly important in the United States, where the obesity rate is among the highest in the world. Most American adults are overweight, and 42 percent are obese. Black, Hispanic, Native American and Alaska Native people have higher obesity rates than white adults and Asian Americans, and they have also seen death rates roughly double those of white Americans."

Maybe everybody should be more focused on loosing weight and eating better. It just may save their lives.

I'm happy to say - if the numbers I've been getting on the scale are correct - that I'm not overweight either.
Nevertheless, I still don't want to get covid and find out how bad it is firsthand.

Also, I don't want to get it and pass it along to other family members who do have issues, even if I don't myself.

This is the kind of information the government and the media should be broadcasting. We should all know exactly why some people get severe case while others don't. There shouldn't be this constant drum of get vaccinated and wear your mask. Instead, there should be a free help to loose weight. Just think of all the lives that could have / can be saved. Salt in packaged food should be a thing of the past too. Eat one pizza, no matter what kind or how much less bad it is for you, and you have already crossed over into the unhealthy zone. And that's just one meal.

I agree, and I also think that there should be a stronger government campaign against obesity, covid or no.

Even if the government only wants to think of it in pure financial terms and doesn't actually give a crap about the happiness and well-being of its citizens, still, I feel like a healthy population costs less to maintain than it does to fix a sick population. They won't have to pay for all that medical care and insurance and whatnot. So even if the government doesn't care about anything but the bottom line, it would be wiser to invest in keeping us as healthy as possible.

Just my off-the-cuff guess. I'm not a professional economist or anything.

Good! I understand. I don't want anybody to get it. That's why I distance. Well, that and it comes naturally to me. ;) But, with family members that's really tough. Just remember even if you are full vaccinated you can still pass it on IF you come in close contact with someone else that has it. That's why there's such a mad rush and shortage of test kits. It sort of becomes impossible not to spread it. You can't always wear an N95 mask around everybody especially when you are eating together.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Any and all shame for being overweight should be done away with. The focus should be on HELPING people become more healthy. It disgusts me when obese famous people promote their obese lifestyle too. It's not about appearances. It's about not being healthy.

You mean like Michelle Obama’s “let’s move” campaign and attempt on healthier school lunches? How did that work out? I will say it again - it’s us, problem is us! We can ***** about government, but it’s us! Only if we fix us, we will be able to fix our government.

Dearest, life is such that one day you are heathy, the next day you wake up with a pre-existing condition. Be humble.

To be honest, I don't know. I'm guessing it didn't work. I really haven't been following that closely.

I think the problem is at least partially "them", though. "They" certainly don't make it any easier to fix "us". I mean, we can't control "them" and what "they" do. But it is a factor in preventing "us" from being strong enough and informed enough to fix ourselves.

The problem is that the honeysuckle is too cheap and accessible. McDonald's is fast and easy and cheap. Head next door and you can get donuts, and don't forget to stop and get cake for dessert.

I know my day is coming. After I hit age 40 I started slowing down. After 50 I found out that I simply cannot do what I used to easily do. I can no longer scale up and down rock faced canyons. But, I can still hike a hard 40 miles through streams, sand, and over hills in one day. I still bike, hike, and walk. So, I'm not there yet. But, I know it's coming. As it does I will prepare for it as best I can.

Pretty much from the start they said that obesity was a risk factor. A good part of the people that I know, who have died from it, were over weight. It is good to know why it is such a risk factor. I am kind of surprised about Native American having a higher rate of obesity. Where I live is about 11% Native Americans and one of my work places it is probably over 50% but I really haven't seen it in them. It could just be that they aren't representative of the national population at least weight wise.

The reason I try to be careful is that I am around too many people who have preexisting conditions or have family members that do. I choose not to risk them.

It was a nice minimal try. I mean like hit the places that provide meals of any kind. IMO, McDonald's should just be out of business. ;) Put hard mandates with high violations on the amounts of sodium, which they are half assed working on, and unhealthy fats. But, more then anything let people know they can die from being overweight. It's not about apperances. I bet most people don't realize how much sodium they are actually eating and what that actually does to a person's body. Give people incentives, money, free food, to change their eating habits. Give them large breaks on their health insurance as they continue to get closer to their healthy weight. There has been a huge campaign to let over weight people feel good about themselves for the past decade. That's nice. But, it has also given everybody an excused to not watch their weight. If the models in the magazines are overweight and pretty then I can be too. That needs to stop. I know people like their high sodium, high fat foods. But, it's really a type of drug addiction that's unhealthy.

She was dragged by conservatives, again bitching about the government telling you what to eat.
This is my favorite “some conservatives even suggested that Obama was endangering people, blaming an increase in pedestrian deaths on the first lady’s campaign by saying that Americans were putting themselves at risk by walking more” 😂 We are electing these moron, it’s us!
Also, Bloomber’s attempt to elimi super size sodas made people foam at the mouth. Just buy two if you must, geez!

You socialist 😂

YEP! Those places are like poison buldings. I would knock them into a healthier place or shut them down really quick. The only reason I go to McDonalds is that many of them have really fast free WiFi and large parking lots. ;) It's super easy and cheap to eat like crap. It's quite difficult to eat healthy. It doesn't have to be expensive. But, it can get that way if you want fast and healthy. Everything needs to be made fresh or near fresh. The thing many people think is that healthy tastes like crap. But, our taste buds change over time. Now when I bite into a Granny Smith apple my taste buds exploded. It tastes super sugary to me. It's almost too sweat. So, I use those and oranges as a dessert sometimes.

It's hard to get off a drug (Bad fats & sodium) habit.

Everything in moderation. I eat dessert, but I try to make it healthier and it's usually always from scratch, so I know exactly what's in it. And don't even think about taking pizza away from me entirely. lol

That said, yes, a lot of people do think healthy equals no taste. The same as people think vegan foods are automatically going to be disgusting or have tofu in them. I "trick" people all the time with my vegan baking. You can't tell, like at all. They are always surprised as hell when I tell them it's vegan. lol People need to get over their assumptions about what does and does not taste good.
