I make my own hot pockets. These are filled with ham and cheese and a dollop of strawberry jamView attachment 4984
Ham and cheese and a small dollop of strawberry jam?! They look delicious, but what a bizarre food combination. Ham and cheese together - for sure! But the addition of jam - never heard of that together. Is this a regional thing? Just curious.

Monte Cristos usually come with raspberry jam. But if you dissect it it's defiantly far from bizarre. It's just a variant of sweet and salty a very common food combination. Almost any trail mix will have raisins and pretzels. BBQ sauce often has a lot of sugar, American ketchup, kettle corn, caramelized onions with savory food. A lot of Chinese food, at least in America, honey chicken, sesame chicken etc. Ham is often glazed with brown sugar.

Can't say I've ever had a Monte Cristo that had raspberry jam on it. Here in Canada, that kind of sandwich is usually made up of turkey, ham, cheese, then dipped in egg and pan-fried.

Anyway, my original question was simply an observation - never heard of ham/cheese/strawberry jam together and wondered if it's a regional dish.

Saw it on a baking show. It's delicious. Have you ever had a Monte Cristo?

Yes I have. But here in Canada, a Monte Cristo doesn't have any type of jam on it - EVER. I've eaten Monte Cristos in many restaurants over the years and never once had one with a sweet component. This must be a U.S/regional thing. Anyway, your pizza pocket looks good - but I'll take mine with just ham and cheese please! :p :D;)

:( I just wanted to talk about food.

Appears the dairy farmers of Canada don’t know the exclusive way Canada serves this sandwich. Must be a regional thing. 2D27F38C-2420-4212-8F51-614E15DF9609.jpeg
