Made this up in the spot. Charley is a chihuahua but I never mention it because Charley is another human being to me.
Oh Charley, oh Charley.
With your steps full of vigor, your body bouncing like a ball
Ever perky and energetic in your wake
On the frozen days we neither had a home or another
But we did have each other
I would shiver from the cold
And you would curl up in a ball in my lap
And you would look up at my face, your wet nose tickling my cheeks
Always trying to protect me
No matter how small you were
Like Napoleon Bonaparte, none too intimidating but always willing to fight for his people
But you're gone now.
And as I lay at your makeshift grave
The sickly sweet smell of grass hovering beneath my nose
I wonder how you could serve and love me
Without even knowing
But I couldn't do the same
Oh Charley, oh Charley.
