    What made you smile today?

Got a book I ordered in the mail today. It's a guide to North American warblers (birds). Excited to read it and the books on shorebirds and raptors I ordered which I got in the mail last week.

    What made you smile today?

I've been frustrated with my inconsistency at work lately which has led to me beating up (verbally, not literally; though that's not necessarily any better) on myself the past couple of days. Been going on nature walks (my preferred activity) a bit more frequently as a result, sort of as...

What book are you reading right now?

The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi

    No title

History's playthings, yesterday's toys. Uncovering old bones, those same dead ploys. Buried once before beneath earth and stone, revived by voices of familiar tone. Cold, hard steel forged by familiar hands. Threatening postures, a familiar glance. Narrow eyes glare, speaking more than words...

    hello

Hi Chris. Welcome. What did you study? If you don't mind me asking. Studied wildlife science myself and can relate to the struggle getting a job. It's not so much a lack of positions, so much as people expecting you to be do almost everything out the gate and already have lots of experience...

    The rhyming couplet thread

Striving to be useful while striving to just be. A pessimistic idealist, that's me.

How do you enjoy your life as a loner?

Snakes and birds, and other wildlife. Getting outdoors, reading, listening to music, or watching movies. Occasionally do these things with other folks, but often just on my own.

How often do you go out?

As of late, not a whole lot. I get a bit of interaction in while volunteering (less so at work), but socializing as in hanging out with friends? Yeah, maybe a couple of times a month over the last few months. Hiking and wildlife viewing are my main activities and I've done that mostly solo as of...

What are you doing right now?

Trying to gather paperwork regarding my tax return for last year when I was still in Canada (I'm back in US now). I don't mind paying taxes, but gosh the forms can be confusing! Haha After that, a bit of exercise!

    The rhyming couplet thread

So simple, this, and yet I fail. So tranquil, bliss, and yet I wail.

Do you enjoy wildlife? Not that that's a requirement haha I'd be up for this, I think.

    The loneliness of sobriety

I must have been about ten years old when I told myself I would never drink. Though my father drank at the time, he was not a heavy drinker. His friends were the heavy drinkers. They'd hang out with my dad in the garage or come with us to go fishing and camping. Seeing them drunk is what led me...

Whats your biggest mistake of your life?

Keeping to myself as a teen, probably. I mean I would socialize with some folks at school, but largely kept to myself otherwise. Not sure why I did that. Used to hurt myself too then. Don't know why that was either. I know I was angry about moving when my parents separated and I was shy, but why...

What are you feeling, hoping, thinking, or remembering right now?

Demoralized, lost. Trying not to compare myself to others, but looking at my other friends who have finished or are wrapping up their graduate degrees while I'm here having withdrawn from my own program earlier this year doesn't help. I did get hired last week for a part-time job, so that along...

    Volunteer?

Sorry to hear you've had such unfortunate experiences volunteering. That definitely doesn't sound like a healthy environment. Did you ever bring up the situation with staff in charge to try and resolve things?

I wish someone could explain me

That sounds horrible and I'm sorry to hear you've had to go through that. Like others, I can only speculate as to why your mother does these things. However, is there anyone else you can call on for help in emergency situations? How long will you be living with your mom?
