There are shitty people wherever you go. It's not just on online dating. Maybe online dating just exposes people more than real life scenarios.

Yep. Online, you can put up a fake photo, pretend to be someone you’re not (one of the reasons I dislike the “hate it till you make it” crap), and I think that emboldens people to .. well, I was going to say to try and get money from people, but really, I think it just gives people a green light to be cold, callus, and superficial, because they don’t have to really deal with people. You’re just text on a screen, or a voice, or a video .. you can be turned off and walked away from. As much as I like the internet, I also think that, to some, it has made people more disposable.
