But wouldn't it help when it's harder to get guns? huh? All big shootings (in America) are done with guns, mainly because you can do a lot more damage with an AK-47 then a supersoaker with gas and match, and not everyone can effectively make their own bombs. Ofcourse it doesnt solve the problem, but it would help and make it harder for such person to do such an act and maybe make less victims. Simple, it's not a solution but a measure.

I've been watching the news on this here and there and whether people want to blame guns or not there is one thing that bothers me about it. NO regular citizen should have easy access to semi automatic weapons, those are MILITARY weapons NOT for regular ordinary people to have. There is no need to have those kinds of weapons. That is just insane. There needs to be better control over that sort of thing so sick people like this guy can't just go and buy semi automatic weapons. Apparently this guy bought a crap load of ammunition too, people shouldn't be able to do that.

I always think that it's not the things but the people who use it. But with the exception of guns. Knives and other objects that can be used as weapons are also built for other purposes, but guns are mainly built for killing, unless it's flare gun. I am not saying that guns is the problem, but I do think having stricter laws can help if not solve...hinder the problem. It's so simple really. A gun is a powerful thing that can end a human life in just seconds. To have it requires great responsibility. It would help much if they'd have back ground checking for valid reasons for needing a gun and mental and emotional capacity of a person before he/she is issued a gun. Of course, there are other problems as well, like what Soph has stated about mental health of people. But problems like this don't just require one solution. They are caused by a lot of factors and a lot of solutions should also be applied to solve it. It can't be solve if only one problem is addressed in a more complex problem we have today.

also, it wasn't too long ago that there was a mass shooting in the same state as well. It makes me sad why this has to happen again, even if I am not american.

personally, I don't like guns. I've never shot one, never owned one, once, I was forced to touch one by my ahole of a father.... BUT, guns, as much as I hate to say this, can and do save people... but, it is very rare...in most instances, having a concealed weapon only asks for danger..... so, when I lived in Albuquerque, some guy went into a walmart with a knife in his backpack. His intention was to murder his pregnant ex g/f, who worked at the deli counter. The guy jumped over the counter and started stabbing her. There just happenend to be a man there, who had a legal, concealed weapon permit. He shot the guy in the head and killed him, saving the woman and her child. It is a pretty powerful story.

I think crime and our economy and our values are/IS getting worse, but I also know that crimes weren't reported fully back in the 1950's as they are now... alot of molestations and kid porn stuff went undetected and/or unreported. With the tanked economy, it only makes sense that crime will get worse. People are losing jobs, are stressed more than ever, and in our society of money, power, and arrogance being considered a goal to attain, it only begs for trouble. When people can't get jobs to make money, what other choice do you have but to do it illegally?

Our best teachers, our politicians, are pretty much all crooks, disrespectful, arrogant, never take responsibility for their actions, blame others for thier problems, and back their own pollitical systems ahead of their own beliefs and thoughts (i.e., mob and gang mentality dominate political decisions) Where is the spiritual development? why do we not care more about this compared to money? Why has it become acceptable to not accept responsibility and instead blame others? Look at all the ridiculous television shows.... people seem to like the shows where there is rude people, full of mean drama, full of people putting others down to make themselves feel better... I am not blaming the tv shows at all btw, I think it is a reflection on where people's priority's have gone...

We have the 2nd amendment so we can fight for our rights if we need to. Dont buy into the dumb gun law arguments.

guns aren't just used for killing.

they are also used for defending and saving.

one of the worst terrorist attacks in american history happened twenty miles from my house,

in the early twentieth century a disgruntled farmer upset over taxes parked a tanker full of fertilizer outside an elementary school and detonated it, killing scores of small children and teachers.

should we outlaw farming? maybe fertilizer? schools perhaps?

I can't even think of anything to say. Try turning off the TV and listening to the Beatles or something. People died and it's a time of morning for those related to the departed.

I feel very compelled, like the rest of you, I'm sure, to have some sort of opinion, but... I for one, am making the, 'choice', to be above that. People died, and nothing is going to bring them back...

I just think that people who are tying this to Batman, or action hero movies in general, aren't the type of audience that would be going to see this film, anyway. Batman didn't kill 14 people; a crazy man with an arsenal of guns, who considered himself "The Joker", did.

I just hate to see the actors and the movie go down with the negativity. I prefer to think positively, pray for the victims, and hope they make it through. And pray that this man sees reason before he is put to death.

There's nothing more ignorant than thinking a movie had anything to do with what this psychopath scumbag did. Obviously he had some sort of mental illness. People that don't don't do what he did. And here's the worst part...why do you think, after he shot up the movie theater, did he go back to his car and wait for the cops to arrest him?

Because he wanted to be famous. Not only did he want to be famous, he didn't blow his own brains out after the shooting because he wanted to be alive to experience it. And yet, here we go again. His face is plastered all over the news. They're showing him in court. They're revealing his life story to everyone. And in doing that, they're giving him exactly what he wanted, and they're sending the message to America, that this works EVERY. TIME.

If you wanna be famous, all you have to do is shoot a bunch of people. He meticulously planned out his attack, had a huge cache of weapons, and even allowed himself to be arrested. All so he could be famous. Blame the ******* pigs on FOX News before you blame Batman.

I also believe that blaming movies is ridiculous. I've seen my share of nasty ones, and have never felt compelled to go out and murder people. In all fairness though, the human mind is a total mystery. In some people's minds, what we consider entertainment, they consider reality.

My old shrink once said to me that even with all of the extensive study that has gone into trying to figure out why the brain works the way it does, is still a mystery. Even to mental health professionals.

I heard somewhere, that the world hasn't gotten worse over the years, we're just more able to hear about it globally and whatnot with media now.

I fully agree with this....

if i ran this honeysuckle, i would put him in a refrigerated room at about 43 degrees while he was slowly lowered into a meat grinder full of superglue and antiseptic.

he would be lowered about an inch per day, but wouldn't bleed to death due to the low temps and superglue.

of course, he would be able to watch the whole thing on tv right in front of him. all tv stations would broadcast it uninterrupted for as many days as it took for him to disappear into the mix.

send a little message that the only thing a stunt like this will get you is a horrible end, not infamy or fame.

Speaking of the actors, Christian Bale went to visit the victims. This guy may get a bad rap for his temper but he did a really great thing. Warner Bros is also donating an undisclosed, rumored substantial sum of money.

Now the media is reporting him as "shy" and "a loner" in High School, College, and his personal life.

Just because someone is a loner, and shy, does not make him/her a crazed serial killer. Let the stereotyping begin!

I was thinking the same. I was just waiting for that stereotypical honeysuckle to be thrown out there eventually. I'm still waiting for the evidence that he really was a loner because to me, I'm thinking it's just the media making the assumption considering that some of the worst serial killers in history have happened to be loners. There's a logical explanation for this too.
