Hi All,

I was just talking to Mike about one of my favorite songs of all time. It's by Morrissey, lead singer of the 1980's ORIGINAL Emo band The Smiths...(Musical Gods) and it's called "Unlovable". I love everything about this song from the sweetness of Moz's voice to the self-indulgent mood.

Oh ...
I know Im unloveable
You dont have to tell me
I dont have much in my life
But take it - its yours
I dont have much in my life
But take it - its yours
Oh ...

I know Im unloveable
You dont have to tell me
Oh, message received
Loud and clear
Loud and clear
I dont have much in my life
But take it - its yours

I know Im unloveable
You dont have to tell me
For message received
Loud and clear
Loud and clear
Message received
I dont have much in my life
But take it - its yours

I wear black on the outside
cause black is how I feel on the inside
I wear black on the outside
cause black is how I feel on the inside

And if I seem a little strange
Well, thats because I am
If I seem a little strange
Thats because I am

But I know that you would like me
If only you could see me
If only you could meet me

Oh ...
I dont have much in my life
But take it - its yours
I dont have much in my life
But take it - its yours
Mmm ...
Oh ...

Here is a video someone made to go along with the song (NOT the original video and probably not safe for work!)

What I meant to say was that in the 8th grade, I was part of a very small group of kids who wore all black all day every day, like a uniform. It wasn't anything we had spoken about and back then in the 1980's (remember all the day glo colors popular back then? yuck!) it was actually a very rebellious thing to do. I remember the jocks and popular kids looking at us during the recess after lunch and calling us 'Blackies' and making fun of us because we were depressed and into stuff like the Cure. We liked The Red Hot Chili Peppers before anyone had heard of them and they were just a little punk band in California.

I still love that line and it makes me laugh "I wear black on the outside...cause black is how I feel on the inside." "And if I seem a little strange...well, that's because I AM!"

The Smiths is a pretty cool band. Haven't listened very much to them, but the stuff I've heard is good. Didn't know they were the original emo band hehe. I love Red Hot Chili Peppers as well, though I only started to listen to them last year

One of my favorite song with my favorite lyrics is "The Spirit Carries On" by Dream Theater. The song is great, with an excellent guitar solo, and the lyrics always cheer me up. Love it! ^__^

Where did we come from?
Why are we here?
Where do we go when we die?
What lies beyond?
And what lay before?
Is anything certain in life?

They say " Life is too short"
"The here and the now"
And " You`re only given one shot"
But could there be more?
Have I lived before?
Or could this be all that we`ve got?

If I die tomorrow
I`d be alright
Because I believe
That after we`re gone
The spirit carries on

I used to be frightened of dying
I used to think death was the end
But that was before
I`m not scared anymore
I know that my soul will transcend

I may never find all the answers
I may never understand why
I may never prove
What I know to be true
But I know that I still have to try

If I die tomorrow
I`d be alright
Because I believe
That after we`re gone
The spirit carries on

Move on, be brave
Don`t weep at my grave
Because I`m no longer here
But please never let
Your memories of me disappear

Safe in the light that surrounds me
Free of the fear and the pain
My questioning mind
Has help me to find
The meaning in my life again
Victoria`s real
I finally feel
At peace with the girl in my dreams
And now that I`m here
It`s perfectly clear
I found out what all of this means

If I die tomorrow
I`d be alright
Because I believe
That after we`re gone
The spirit carries on

Here's a link to the song. There's a beautiful solo bit before it

Just for kicks I looked up the New York Doll's, one of Morrissey's favorite bands. Johnny Thunders, one of the Dolls, died of a drug overdose or murder (we're not sure, it was very suspicious circumstances) and other members of the band died of drugs (this was the 70's). But this is a good song, good lyrics.

Johnny Thunders: You Can't Put Your Arm Around a Memory

It doesn't pay to try,
All the smart boys know why,
It doesn't mean I didn't try,
I just never know why.
Feel so cold and all alone,
Cause baby, you're not at home.
And when I'm home
Big deal, I'm still alone.

Feel so restless, I am,
Beat my head against a pole
Try to knock some sense,
down in my bones.
And even though they don't show,
The scars aren't so old
And when they go,
They let you know

You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
Don't try, don't try

You're just a ******* kid,
And you got no name
Cause you're living with me,
We're one and the same

And even though they dont show,
They scars aren't so old
And when they go,
They let you know

You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
Don't try, don't try

You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
You can't put your arms around a memory
Don't try, don't try

Watch the video. It's bad quality corny 80's set, but the song itself is good

One of my favourite songs is Hurt by Christina Aguilera. I can really relate to some of the lyrics in this song...

Seems like it was yesterday when I saw your face
You told me how proud you were but I walked away
If only I knew what I know today

I would hold you in my arms
I would take the pain away
Thank you for all you've done
Forgive all your mistakes
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To hear your voice again
Sometimes I want to call you but I know you won't be there

I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you
Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit
Sometimes I just want to hide 'cause it's you I miss
You know it's so hard to say goodbye when it comes to this

Would you tell me I was wrong?
Would you help me understand?
Are you looking down upon me?
Are you proud of who I am?
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To have just one more chance
To look into your eyes and see you looking back

I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself
If I had just one more day, I would tell you how much that
I've missed you since you've been away

Oh, it's dangerous
It's so out of line to try to turn back time

I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself
By hurting you

I have a lot of favorite songs, but one of them is "Black and White" by Sarah McLachlan. Here are the lyrics:

Unravel me
A distant cord
On the outside is forgotten
A constant need
To get along
And the animal awakens
And all I feel is black and white

The road is long
The memory slides
To the whole of my undoing
Put aside
I put away
I push it back to get through each day

And all I feel is black and white
And I'm wound up small and tight
And I don't know who I am

Everybody loves you when you're easy
Everybody hates when you're a bore
Everyone is waiting for your entrance
So don't disappoint them

Unravel me
Untie this chord
The very center of our union
Is caving in
I can't endure
I am the archive of our failure

And all I feel is black and white
And I'm wound up small and tight
And I don't know who I am

Everybody loves you when you're easy
Everybody hates when you're a bore
Everyone is waiting for your entrance
So don't disappoint them

Everybody loves you when you're easy
So don't disappoint them
Don't disappoint them...

Here are the lyrics and the video for one of my all-time favorite songs,

"More Than This" (Originally by Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music, then covered by 10,000 Maniacs)

I could feel at the time
There was no way of knowing
Fallen leaves in the night
Who can say where they're blowing
As free as the wind
And hopefully learning
Why the sea on the tide
Has no way of turning

More than this - there is nothing
More than this - tell me one thing
More than this - there is nothing

It was fun for a while
There was no way of knowing
Like dream in the night
Who can say where we're going
No care in the world
Maybe I'm learning
Why the sea on the tide
Has no way of turning

More than this - you know there's nothing
More than this

If you saw the movie "Lost in Translation" (I loved this movie. It moves very slowly but I like the emotions, I also love Japan) this song featured in it prominently.

The Cure (I almost wrote Depeche Mode)

Pictures
-----------------
I've been looking so long at these pictures of you
That I almost believe that they're real
I've been living so long with my pictures of you
That I almost believe that the pictures are
All I can feel

Remembering
You standing quiet in the rain
As I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell in
Holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
Remembering
You running soft through the night
You were bigger and brighter and wider than snow
And screamed at the make-believe
Screamed at the sky
And you finally found all your courage
To let it all go

Remembering
You fallen into my arms
Crying for the death of your heart
You were stone white
So delicate
Lost in the cold
You were always so lost in the dark
Remembering
You how you used to be
Slow drowned
You were angels
So much more than everything
Hold for the last time then slip away quietly
Open my eyes
But I never see anything

If only I'd thought of the right words
I could have held on to your heart
If only I'd thought of the right words
I wouldn't be breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Looking so long at these pictures of you
But I never hold on to your heart
Looking so long for the words to be true
But always just breaking apart
My pictures of you

There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Within Temptation- Our Farewell

In my hands
A legacy of memories
I can hear you say my name
I can almost see your smile
Feel the warmth of your embrace
But there is nothing but silence now
Around the one I loved
Is this our farewell?

Sweet darling you worry too much, my child
See the sadness in your eyes
You are not alone in life
Although you might think that you are

Never thought
This day would come so soon
We had no time to say goodbye
How can the world just carry on?
I feel so lost when you are not by my side
But there's nothing but silence now
Around the one I loved
Is this our farewell?

So sorry your world is tumbling down
I will watch you through these nights
Rest your head and go to sleep
Because my child, this not our farewell.
This is not our farewell.

Hi Kavii,

I also love that song. It's "Pictures of You" by the Cure. They are also one of my all time favorites!

Also love the lyrics in in "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. David Gilmour sings it so great

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Hi Kavii,

No, I'm not familiar with them. What are their songs that you like?

I really like Given Up and Somewhere I belong by linkin park

Somewhere I belong
I had nothing to say
And I get lost in the nothingness inside of me
(I was confused)
And I let it all out to find
That I’m not the only person with these things in mind
(Inside of me)
But all the vacancy the words revealed
Is the only real thing that I’ve got left to feel
(Nothing to lose)
Just stuck/ hollow and alone
And the fault is my own, and the fault is my own

I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real
I wanna let go of the pain I’ve held so long
(Erase all the pain till it’s gone)
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I’m close to something real
I wanna find something I’ve wanted all along
Somewhere I belong

Given Up
Wake in a sweat again
Another day's been laid to waste
In my disgrace

Stuck in my head again
Feels like I'll never leave this place
There's no escape

I'm my own worst enemy

I've given up
I'm sick of living
Is there nothing you can say

Take this all away
I'm suffocating
Tell me what the **** is wrong
With me

Hi Don,

I also like that song and many from Linkin Park. Usually I don't like more recent bands...I do like all genres, though! Anyone else have some good songs?

Hey Jeremi I also love that song by Pink Floyd. And all the songs on Division Bell. But my favorite is the classic, Learning to Fly.

Just found this thread... (thanks lonelygirl!)

My favourite music is Cello suite No.1 by Bach

No words, just feelings...:)

Eyael,

I'll have to listen to that piece. I don't know it by name. I would say my favorite classical music is Mozart, Dvorak, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Handel.

Lonelygirl,

I also like Tchaikovsky, Mozart and Dvorak a lot, but I like Bach the most... IMHO, the rythm of Bach's compositions is evenly distributed...
What am I talking about?     looool    I'm being too abstract!!  Well, I love Bach, can't explain why:shy:

Can't really point out the favorite song, but here's few..

Linkin Park - My December
The Fray - How To Save A Life
Pink - Who Knew
Rem - Everybody Hurts
Metallica - The Unforgiven
Metallica - The Unforgiven II

Those moslty because of their lyrics, I like sad songs.

Overal Linkin park is my favorite bad, also like evanescene and within temptation, but other than those i don't like metal or hard rock. I also listen to jpop and jazz/soul quite a lot.
I collect music videos on my computer, currelty I have ~1400 music videos.
