I compromised with family puppeteering. I accepted some manipulations in return for some cooperation with my own agenda.
Did it balance out? I told myself that it did.....enough of the time that I thought it was acceptable.
But by the onset of the endgame, (and I'm the last one of the family left alive) I realized that I had made a bad bargain.
I inherited the whole estate but I wish I had controlled my life's trajectory a lot more than I did.

None of my family do it much. My grandfather didn't teach manipulation to my dad and his siblings and they didn't teach it to us, for the most part. I consider myself lucky, because it's rare to have family you can actually depend on. My mother's side is quite different. Don't see them much either.
