To my love, wherever you may be
Funniest thing happened the other day
The universe made up its mind
To play another trick on me
The Stars played keep-away with my affections; to each, with all, in every direction
Then scolded me at length for not accepting my lot
To toil my entire life and all for not
And then to rot, to rot, and rot
I must admit, darlin,’ I was scared
Just one more time, I wanted you near
But as it was explained
Even my love no longer cared
But I wouldn't believe!
“It's just a sick game” I said
The the universe spoke
“You will know pain and then most certainly, death.”
Funniest thing, it was only dream;
Please, please, please
Bring me back to lucidity
Where are you? Riding dawn’s horizon
Hiding in my dark cloud’s silver lining?
As I row, row, row my boat
Across the Styx; even the ferryman keeps his distance. But he points his creaking finger right at me, saying nothing, sardonically
To my love, across the river
The current is subtle
But my vessel is in splinters
I'm treading water above the undertow
I grow so tired, I'm getting cold
My resolve waivers;
WAKE ME UP!
Please, just this one last favor.
