I strode out early into a winter's eve,
To meet the promise of a sky so stark,
Where the stars burn brightest, of magnitudes unbound,
By the earthly haze of summertime far.
But I feared the cold and I feared the dark,
In meeting this promise of a sky so dark,
So I saw no more, and firmament be damned,
I took the earthly haze, and summertime is far.
This is for K, a former friend who needed me badly at one time, and I let her down. I will always regret it.
