ADHD predominantly inattentive. (I put a wikipedia link in Essential Articles.)

I haven't been diagnosed that. I think I may have been misdiagnosed with incorrect things. When I look at the symptoms of ADHD I feel like I have every one of those problems. The worst part is, nobody ever realized it when I was a kid. I wonder how many other people could have this and not know it! I've read a lot on psychology and I feel that this one best describes what life is like for me. I'm going to go see a doctor about it.

*sigh*

Anytime most people look at a disease of ANY kind, they start to see the symptoms in themselves.

I think you may be simply looking for an excuse or an explanation for past behavior mistakes.

*shrug* I could be wrong.

*shrug* I could be wrong.

Well let me give some examples.

1. Symptom-"Often does not give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities."

I make careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, and other things. In algebra class I can do quadratic equations in my head very quickly, but I may often have a minus sign where it should have been a plus sign.

At work I once faxed papers to myself. I'm not an idiot. I have a 99% in my computer programming class. :p I do these small things like this all the time.

2. Symptom-"Often having difficulty keeping attention during work, or holding down a job for a significant amount of time." and "Often having difficulty concentrating on conversations."

It's extremely hard for me to pay attention to people talking. I'll start daydreaming even though I might look like I'm listening. The person I'm talking to might say one word that "jerks" my attention back to the conversation. When this happens I may interrupt them with, what? What were you just saying? My focus will then be 100% back on the conversation.

I'm currently working my 7th job. I'm still young!

3. Symptom-"Having trouble finishing projects that have already been started."

I was going to cut down all the weeds behind the house. I cut down about 1/4 of them and left it. I haven't finished it.

I started making my brother a warcraft 3 map. I got about 50% of it done. Haven't worked on it for a couple months.

And plenty of other things.

4. Symptom-"Often misplacing or having difficulty finding things at home or at work, Disorganized personal items (sometimes old and useless to the individual) causing excessive clutter (in the home, car, etc.)"

You can't even sit in the backseats of my car because of how much crap I have in there. I've never been able to keep my room clean. I lose things all the time.

5. Symptom-"Often distracted by activity or noise"

Definitely this. It's very hard for me to fall asleep if I hear things going on. Could be quiet things. Any sound that isn't a constant sound will keep me awake.

Sometimes when I'm talking with someone I'll be looking around at everything else but them. If someone is walking past or someone enters the room I lose concentration on what the person is saying.

6. Symptom-"Often having problems remembering appointments or obligations, or inconveniently changing plans on a regular basis"

I've missed meetings at work because I forgot about them. I'd write things down, but I'd forget where I put the thing I wrote it on. I'll make plans to do 4 different things with 4 different people on the same day because I forgot I had already made plans.

I really don't feel like going on about any of the other symptoms, but I also have the following-

Difficulties completing household chores

Procrastination, inability to begin an activity

Forgetfulness

Excessive distractibility

Avoiding tasks that require a high amount of mental effort and organization

Appearing not to listen when spoken to (often being accused of "daydreaming")

That's practically every symptom on the list. If I don't have ADHD, but if ADHD meds will take away all of my ADHD symptoms I think it's worth at least talking to a doctor about.

I have that and found out before many years. It helps me a LOT to get out of depression cos my mind wont stick to it. So don't worry. It has positive sides.

I don't like how it affects me man. :(

I don't like it either how it effects me. I have all those things and probably why I cant do anything perfect even though my OCD side just wants things perfect. Sucks to be me.. I cant do it bt i want to do it. Its hard to explain. I am trying but just cant get it right. Anything for that matter. My life itself.

Dude I am the same way! I really think we should find out if there is something that can help us. Our lives could turn around!

I've always had the thought of suffering from ADD or ADHD, and I think I do have something like that, I just haven't paid attention. ha ha get it? ADD and I have never paid attention? Yes is one of my horrible jokes no but seriously I can relate to some of the symptoms you guys mention but I've never been diagnosed and I don't believe in medication anyways.

Jesse if I were you I'd go get testing done by a psychologist that specializes in ADD.

For me, my ADD really shows itself in my driving. I've found that I can't drive with the radio on because it is too distracting and leads to a higher chance that I'll do something stupid like run a stop-sign. (this happened twice, and I have implemented a no radio policy after two visits by disgruntled police officers). Two weeks ago, I backed into a mail-box, and a year ago I got into a wreck; these things show me that one of my weak spots is paying attention when I first get INTO the car and am backing up or trying to get out of a parking space. I am paying with my own money for the mailbox incident.

So, no radio, pay attention when backing up. :p

Oh did I mention last saturday I drove away from a parking space with one of the back car doors open? Thankfully I was only driving to another spot in the parking lot; so someone beeped at me and alerted me to it. I was mortified though; absolutely MORTIFIED and embarassed.

I really REALLY have to pay attention when I first get into the car. x_x

I also have to be careful while in cities when driving through streets that are secondary roads in the city due to sneaky stop-signs sneaking up on me. :p

I'm getting better at driving I think. It'll just take a while for me to hammer out my weaknesses; most of which are due to not paying attention because I'm so prone to getting lost inside the world I create in my own head.

To be fair though, i've only had my license for two years, one year of which I spent down in D.C. where there was public transportation. So hopefully I will continue to improve with my driving, which I was always afraid to learn to do because I lacked confidence in my abilities.

I have tried Jesse. I heard there are some medications for ADD and idk if I should try it (although I forgot where it was in the net cos the person who showed me those is not in touch with me any more lol). Although going to a physician or something might help but people here are too sick that I just dont wanna risk it (they will think I m retarded and am being diagnosed for some hardcore mental problems heh! society, none have a clue of ADD).

..oh and yeah I know it will be a BIG turning point in our lives cos we will no more be distracted while doing something important and no more STUPID WORRYING of "if anything goes wrong omg omg omg".

Well don't worry about what society or other people think. You have to take care of you. Don't put it off man! Let's get this stuff taken care of.

lol that's funny. I don't think anyone ever paid attention to the fact I wasn't paying attention. :p

I only believe in meds that help things which are innate. I think you can learn emotionaly intelligence to get out of stuff like PTSD, but things you're born with I will take meds for.

Hey you better be careful! I don't want anything to happen to you! Looks like I'll be doing all the driving. People do make mistakes though; don't be embarrassed. <3

That's a good idea about seeing a specialist. I don't think I should just go to my regular doctor. :S

Jesse--
I totally agree with Soph, see someone, if only to answer your own questions. I've seen the right meds make a world of difference in folks.
