Hi,
So it seems like I was a victim of a crypto scam where I worked with someone on a webite to help with crypto recovery from scams (ironically) and paid crypto to (as promised...) get a pay out from an alledged successful client case. Dumb I know.
I paid months worth of my monthly wage (I am in the UK btw) from my day job (I am in tech and earn not far from six figures). I feel so stupid. I did do some looking into if I was scammed and some people said yes but from the explanation from the person behind this, it seemed legit and my gut told me it was safe. My gut is never wrong but a friend did say go with your brain and not gut. When I got the payout (worthless bitcoins), I felt no excitement. I can see why now. Shame my body didn't give me any signals like that earlier in the process.
The UK is in a cost of living crisis and here I am throwing money away on crap with nothing to show for it, like money is going out fashion!
I know people make mistakes, and I will make my fair share (not this again), but this seems to go above a mistake. I did imagine a scenario where not being paid what was promised but I didn't imagine being scammed, as we talked and he seemed a decent guy (all part of the plan I guess). It's like he had a complete switch of personality and decided to scam me.
I did see real money/bitcoin in his wallet (I had the app and read-only access to his wallet), which was a very significant amount, just like I saw £20 in my bitcoin wallet, which I put in. So I did have verification that there was bitcoin available to be paid out (I am no expert but I can't see how that page is faked, and it wasn't a screenshot I was sent). I guess either he has kept it for himself, or with the partner I worked with.
I do blame myself for greed and jealousy. I know a lot of high earners and I have always wanted the same for myself, and a passive income. I have always had the skill with tech, and saw this as the chance. I've had plenty of bad luck in life with dating, health issues, my sexuality, and though this scale of luck is something that I could actually legitimately have and deserve. I guess my lesson is to not be greedy. If I didn't throw that money away I'd have good financial freedom, which I do have now. Ok I won't be buying Lamborghinis but I can still do what I want in life.
Really just posting this to find some positivity.
