To help others can be a good thing when you are lonely or depressed.

Please add organizations to the thread; and add if they are international or local i.e within a country Feedback is appreciated, if links don't work or you have experience with one or more of the organizations.

I already saw meetup mentioned by several on the ALL forum so I'll begin the list with them even if they are more of a social interest organization where you may meet kindred spirits. Really inspiring to read about groups and people finding friends for life.

Idealist.org is a really good database for available volunteer opportunities in the US, Canada and internationally. Also has jobs and internships in the non-profit sector.
