Yes, this is my problem. To be close to others means more than to just be in the presence of someone, and it's a sense of belonging and acceptance that's missing in my life. Yet I see others naturally falling into new groups, new friendships, and new relationships.

There's a point where joking about something stops feeling like joking because a) it's unpleasant and b) the person just keeps finding ways to slip comments in and make insinuations. It's like two schoolboys where one keeps making comments about the other being a woman, a homosexual, a sissy...

Don't let the door hit you. I'd point out how calling everyone who doesn't agree with you names, insulting their way of living, and comparing a silly response on a forum to having an affair tends to make people hostile, but I'm sure it's advice that's been given before.
