There's nothing wrong with chatting. If you aren't making promises to these women you don't intend to keep, you're not leading them on. I'd worry that you might be covering up a lot of unaddressed hurt with attention, though. Wanting to stop but not being able to is a warning sign.

My mother and my entire stepfamily is neurotic, small-minded, and argumentative. The stepfamily is functionally nonexistent to me, but I still begrudgingly talk to my mother.

People can't sense bad people. They can only be put off by outward behavior.

A life lacking is unpleasant, even if you have a good job, good friends, or love. Don't be ashamed of struggling. I have a relationship, but I'll always yearn for family and be jealous of people with loving mothers and fathers.

I don't have a lot of ways to meet people, and I figure it's better than going to events or groups I don't even care about in the hopes of meeting someone. I'm somewhat asocial and I doubt I'd meet anyone at a chess club.

Saturday mornings are for cartoons. I feel the same way. I suppose it's better than getting picked on and pushed around. We have to break up the monotony any way we can, lest we go insane.
