The only message I ever received while a member of one of these meet-a-mate sites was from one of the female representatives who worked for the company, advising me on how to "present my profile" in order to receive messages. Of course, she politely urged me to opt for the paid services!
Kinda frustrating when you come across someone who seems a strong match for you, and you write a thoughtful message, then never hear anything back.
