So yea I was just wondering if it's illegal to hire escorts? Its seems to me escort is just another term for prostitute. My intentions wouldn't be to have sex with an escort just hang out for a date. I feel like I either need to start seeing a therapist or paying people to go out on a date. I don't know how to meet people my social anxiety is becoming overwhelming, it seems like the older I get. I figure hiring and escort to go out on a date with would help me practice with it, but if its illegal I don't want any part.

Depends where you live. I know that here, prostitution isn't illegal, even having sex with a prostitute is legal. The only illegal part is paying for sex. I live in Ontario Canada though.

Illinois? I know prostitution is illegal but are escorts different? Like just pay them to go out to dinner not sex?

Like the previous poster said, it depends on your jurisdiction. Escorts are prostitutes whether you use their services for sex or not, that's still their profession. In some jurisdictions it would be pretty hard to convince authorities (if you got caught) that you only hired the prostitute for 'dating practice' and not sex.
I think you would be better off going to a therapist.

Prostitution is soliciting for sex I believe. I could be wrong but that might just mean they can't be out on the corner or doing whayever they do to attract customers. Laws are peculiar, and I have no idea about Illinois. Id say if you arent paying for sex then its probably legal.

where I'm from - the massage parlours advertise in the local paper, the police know about it but don't do anything. Your paying for their company.

Not all escorts are prostitutes, I'm sure. However, I think you'd be better off looking at rent a friend type of businesses. I actually provide that service to people. Also, erm, not all massage establishments perform sex acts. Those that do are raided sometimes.

If your doing it out of loneliness youre wasting your money and in for a possible heart break as lonely people tend to stick emotionally quickly to others that are friendly to you.

I think you're better off going to a therapist if it's social anxiety that's your problem.

The loophole that escorts use is that you're only paying them for their time and anything that happens in that time is the business of two consenting adults. If we act naive for a minute and assume that's true, I'm not sure spending time with somebody who's only with you is going to help much - even if you have a great time it'll always be at the back of your mind that you paid them to hang around with you. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that paying an escort solely for her time would be even worse (from an emotional point of view) for you than paying her solely for sex.
