Everyone around me
is dead and dark;
from all the books
I’ve read
to the wallpaper.
I am older
but I’m cold,
my age defeats me
and you don't know,
you'll never know.
Chasing a bird
with the sun at my back.
My shadow tricks me,
it'll never come back;
letting go.
Oh no,
I haven't crash
landed yet,
my parachute
has not yet deployed.
I feel I’m the only one
with a shadow,
everyone else has nothing at all;
they are empty
and dead as the trees.
I am older
but I’m cold,

I claim to the sky
but I wasn't ready yet;
I built this around me
and I won't let anybody in,
no, not even you.
