Married but lonely.

As someone that used to be married, I don't understand how anyone that is married can be 'lonely'. You have a wife, and likely kids, how can that be described as 'lonely'. I know when I was married I was lonely to an extent because I didn't have friends that were my own, they were all hers. But I had her, she was always there. Isn't true loneliness being 'alone', alone with your thoughts and alone living inside your head?
