I don't really need advice, just want to blow off steam.

I could quite happily stay in my house all night and be perfectly happy, but I do like to be social sometimes, given the chance - the opportunities are few and far between.

So I was looking at Meetup.com, and I have odd tastes in music so I usually go to gigs on my own, but I am always aware of the people who are there as couples and in groups and it does sometimes make me sad that I'm there on my own with nobody to share it. Anyway I saw a band I quite like, not a massive fan of, but they're OK, and someone had organised a meetup at this gig, saying they had nobody to go with either, so in a spurt of enthusiasm I thought I would give it a go and RSVPd and got my ticket and it was today.

There were only a few of us, one friendly chap was going to meet me at the train station and walk down with me, but he pulled out sick at the last minute. I asked if there was a rendezvous point twice on the group, in advance, nobody replied, the organiser didn't ever post again actually - anyway one of the members posted that he was in a blue shirt in the bar, so I went and trawled around the bar and there were no blue shirts.

So I went into the performance hall and it turned out the place had 3 different bars, I still didn't see anyone in a blue shirt but it was dark, and then I lost my internet signal, so I ended up standing on my own for the gig anyway - then on the way out I saw this person in a blue shirt laughing and joking with a couple of other people and wondered if he was the same one but by then I just wanted to get home.

Got my signal back outside, and nobody had followed up the comments from earlier, but I posted to express my displeasure at people who couldn't organise a meetup in a music venue, FFS...

I sometimes don't think I am destined to socialise offline, apart from my running group, but whenever I start enjoying that they start changing it to do harder activities where you don't have enough breath left to talk :club:

It doesn't sound like a well organized meet up, some others are better, I swear…

odd music, I'd probably like it

Am sure there must be better - I mean there's a gig with 500 people going in a venue with 3 different bars and the host expects people to turn up and just find each other? I've messaged the wider organiser people to suggest they make host duties a bit clearer :club:

Not even sure if they're that odd, just a small band different from what I usually like I suppose.

They're called Teleman, I first heard them when they supported Suede and thought they were quite catchy!

Their videos are definitely a little odd :)

Ugh that stinks. I went to a thing I found on meetup.com once. It was a guided walk through a nature preserve. It was open to the public so I had no idea who the meetup people were and who were just general public. Since I was already waaaaay outside my comfort zone just by going, the idea of approaching anyone to ask was out of the question. I spoke with no one. It was a lovely walk through nature, though. Sigh.

Has anyone responded yet to your comments? When you take into account that many of us who go to meet ups are lonely for whatever reason and may have little confidence in meeting people, this is a really horrible thing to have happened to you. Please don't allow it to stop you from going to other meet ups though, as many are better organised.

It's bizarre - even the bloke who was presumably there in the blue shirt didn't reply, and the Event host hasn't either.

The meetup was under a much larger group (eg the Group is say "gig goers" but each gig under it is a separate event with a different host) so I did message the next people up who run the overall group, and pointed out that a lot of people are quite vulnerable/anxious, and they were very apologetic and said they were going to contact the person (one put it a bit stronger than that :club: and find out what happened - as yes, the host was supposed to specify a meeting point and interact with people who had signed up for the event - not just ignore them altogether!

I'll let you know how it pans out. My next social effort looks like being a victim of the weather - was going to go to my running group, but we have gales and torrential rain, don't want to get hit by bits of building flying off roofs

Ive head that dodging flying debris is great exercise. :p

Lol :club:

I actually braved the weather, it was walkers we had to dodge (I don't mean undead though you never know round here) until we got to the outskirts of the central city area.

This is a different group to my usual one, in the city rather than out in the hills, unfortunately I got talking to someone the first time, and not seen them again, then last time talked to another couple of people, and they didn't come this week, it's hard to gain momentum with this socialising but I did talk to someone briefly tonight.

Thing I like about running groups is if I feel like talking I can find someone to talk to, if I don't feel like talking, I can speed up or slow down or pretend I have no breath to talk lol

And didn't get hit by debris which is a bonus :club:

Never did get an explanation or apology from the gig person - maybe they got hit by a truck :(

However, I did go to a meetup yesterday which was just a meal for an hour, at a restaurant I'd been to be before. Really enjoyed it and did me good to get out - it being only an hour helped and the end of the meal brought it to a natural end and everyone went off to their day, which was kind of nice :)

People are cruel.
I got invited out (not so much now, but when I was 14-16) a few times to "parties" and either no one was there (I'm sure they were down the road in a car laughing at me), or worse.
I always get suspicious of invitations.
Hopefully you're next one goes better.
Go to a Slipknot concert. You'll get mauled.

Peaches is right, it doesn't sound well organised. I've had a few meetup disasters, I've also had some successful ones. It's luck of the draw. Don't give up!

I have been to Slipknot concerts :D

Just reminded me to get tickets for next one here in Jan and haven't got new album yet so will get on that today (I rely on people mentioning things as I don't really keep up to date with releases and tours that much so thanks!)

It is great, The Grey Chapter. If you realise it for what it is.
I have to live with Live From Download cranked for the time being.

Loaded it on my tablet from Amazon - sounds good on first few listens I will look for a Slipknot meetup though I am a bit old for the moshpit these days so will probably get a seat up in the sky in the huge arena we have here! Mind you I was at another rock gig a while back and someone crowd surfed in the seating area, came crashing right over us, LOL :club:
