I am Frannie and live in a small town in Florida. I am not isolated -- I talk to people at work and in town and am active in a book and knitting club, but I am lonely. I don't have anyone, outside of my immediate family, that I am really close to. To some degree my pets fill a void in my life. I am on my way to being the spinster cat lady...

This has been true for most of my life. I am introverted and enjoy some of the time I spend alone, but not all of it. I am a little (okay, a lot) geeky.

Looking at this forum made me feel like I might fit in.
