Following you is something dark
You only see it's shape, it's lifeless mark
It remains quiet as it slowly fades
Coming in morning, leaving through day.
But it will return to haunt you again
For it's your shadow, your permanent friend.

It has no face, no lips, no eyes
Nothing to talk, not even a sigh
But as you approach, it moves away
Perhaps this being is better that way
However, it never choices to leave
You think to yourself, "It's attached to me."

A pointless sweet drips down, off your head
It's lands of the shadow with still nothing said.
What's the point of the random sweat?
It's not like it's the first time you've met.
The shadow has always been there at your feet
For at your feet is where you both always meet.

The quiet is almost to loud to maintain
Like a rolling tires of the mid-night's train.
However, some of it is so soothing
The feeling of it can be so moving.
But take a second look, and I hope you stare.
For that's your shadow, staring back at you there.

It might be smiling, frowning, or staring back.
We don't know, we'll never know that.
Perhaps it does look up as us, into our goals
Deep inside of us, past our frozen cold.
The shadow can see our hidden flame.
One day I'll see, and I'll beat it's game.
