I need some help with things to do in the evenings, preferably something that involves meeting new people (even better if it involves girls!)
So what do you do when you get back from work?
I go to the gym twice on weekdays, but I get home at around 7, so I would like to do more things. I used to take night classes, but that was just once a week and it ended, though it's something I really can recommend.
I live in a fairly large city, I've been thinking maybe I could moonlight as a subway driver.

What about reading groups? Or are there any discussion groups near where you live? Or amateur dramatics?

Evening classes? I'm going to try one for 6 weeks, once a week. It's a start ;-)

In my city right now, there are many groups looking for adult kick ball players and other random sporty things just to get people together. The book club idea is a good one too.

Great ideas, but would there be people my age in the reading groups? I'm almost in my mid-20's.
Improv theater might be a really good idea, I could use the experience.

I go to a reading group at my local library and the age range goes from late teens to 70's. Having said this, some reading groups do tend to be filled with senior citizens, so you might have to try several groups before you find one with a wider age range. An evening group is more likely to have some younger rmembers.

Thanks, I will start looking around for clubs. I have no idea how to find them, though.

Why does nobody ever advocate the pub?
Actually, I kinda wished someone would. I could use the experience.

See if there are any Coed sporting event leagues!
Maybe. I haven't done much sport in my life, but maybe I could start!

Dancing is also something I've been thinking about, I hear they always need guys. Also, Zumba classes. And singing in a choir.

Your local library would be a good place to start. Also, you could ask at a local bookshop.

Thanks, I will have a look around. Maybe there are fliers!
But what do people in general do when they finish work? I have no clue, and it would be nice with some inspiration.

i stay in every night of the week. I either surf the net, read or watch tv.

After work I go to the gym pretty much every day. The rest of the evening I'm usually too tired/lazy to do anything else (partially due to clinical depression), so I stick to my couch and my magnitude of TV shows or books. Procrastinate online or play Xbox are also common options. Now and then I manage to dig up a friend and go to the cinema. If I'm really, really desperate about doing something different, I'll clean my house.

yes, maybe. I do get bored from time to time. So I have a look for clubs or places to go. Nothing really appeals to me. I know a few people (mostly women of course) who I would like to spend time with but it doesn't seem practical asking them. It is hard to ask someone to the cinema for example. Even as friends there is always the fear of offending that person. That's the main reason I don't ask.

Or do you speak another language? I go to a French group two or three evenings a month. One good thing about the group is that it is fluid-people come and go all the time-so I am meeting new people a lot there. Or you could join a group for another specialist interest.

I live in a small town so nothing ever goes on. Most nights I just surf the net but it gets boring. Have no cable here either. Moving to a small city next month, hopefully things will change.

That's another great idea, the evening classes I took were actually in French. But I don't feel confident enough to talk in it yet, except for ordering at a restaurant, heh. Though it would be good opportunity to improve, I guess.

At least you have something to blame! How are you going to 'attack' this new city?
