I went to sam's club yesterday, they already have their Christmas stuff up now,and Halloween, someone was buying a Halloween costume for his daughter, now Halloween I can understand, since it's only a month away, but Christmas,I know Christmas šŸŽ„ is only a few months away and all that, but I don't know, although it is better to have them up now, rather than in July, some people even like having their Christmas lights up all year long, what do you think about stores putting and selling Christmas stuff so early?

Too early.

I even think it's too early for Halloween. Summer's not even officially over yet. We should wait until October 1st to start talking about Halloween, or at the very earliest, the Autumn Equinox.

The seasons need to be given the chance to run their course. We're always in a rush to get to the next thing, now it's like the next three things (Halloween, Thanksgiving - for Americans at least - and Christmas).

I think we need to stay in the season we're in, and let ourselves enjoy it fully, before moving on to the next one.

I think itā€™s a cruel reminder that time is here and gone before you know it. As far as the all the crap in the stores months in advance, Iā€™ve never understood how people could spend so much money on most of that stuff. Iā€™m cheap though.

I know stores here in Canada start putting out the Christmas stuff the day after Halloween (in some cases, both Halloween and Christmas decor is out together). Personally, I think they should wait until after Remembrance Day (November 11th) out of respect for our veterans.

I also think it's major overkill on the push towards all these different holidays. When you've had Christmas shoved in your face for two months straight, you just want to get the **** day over with - you're sick of it! But also, you've spent those two months having this big build-up towards Christmas and then when it finally arrives and it's all over, there's a huge letdown. At least, that's how I always feel.

I think all the commercialization these days takes away from the specialness of holidays.

Definitely feeling this more and more as the years go on.

I like this idea. It gives it a chance to not get lost in between the more "fun" holidays, I don't think a week and a half is too much to ask for that.

This too. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not anti-materialist and I never have been, I've always enjoyed getting stuff. But, I do think it's a bit overdone. And especially for everyone that doesn't have money, it's like, "hey, look at all this stuff...that you can't have, sucks to be you, losers!" I think it's just another sign of the hyper-competitive, hyper-individualistic world. A little more subtlety would be nicer...like sure, the whole gift thing is a part of it, and it's fun, but I think it could get toned down a little bit because not everyone can participate in it like that, especially to that extent.

Me at Christmas time

Family at
Christmas time killing my mood

so then usually around us (it's probably not the same as other places because I lived around other parts, and they didn't do this) are stores will set up the holiday festival merchandise right after the last one ends (about a week or 2 gap time) around my area most of the community does not have to put up any Christmas decor because they never take down there lights (but if they have other items on let's say there yards or roof like Santa reindeer etc. they take those down.)

I absolutely love Christmas spirit even though its origins are not what is celebrated today and has become a tradition in another way it's actually not the same thing, but I still know this and love the season of Christmas because of the joy it brings to my nieces and nephews when I share with them.

My family how ever see no big deal in the season and does nothing, so I have to travel outside of my personal family to get any joy out of the season. (Which I don't mind it gives me a reason to go out, it was also my brothers favorite time of the year so that's about the only time I visit his grave and decorate it.)

I saw loads of Christmas decorations and food on display at Sainsburys this morning, most of it had a best before Oct 27th date on it šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
Like the way B&M took the piss getting rid of all the summer stuff about 3 weeks ago. Wanted a good quality hose pipe and had to settle for a honeysuckle one due to them wanting to start selling Xmas stuff

Good point, very true,I agree with you there.

Yes, the commercialization of Christmas dilutes the specialness of the season, the holiness of it.
And I personally, social isolate that I basically am, get a bit depressed during the holidays. The only active Christmas observation for me is assisting at our church Christmas Eve services. I'm alone the next morning.

Only if people allow it to become that way. A lot of people aren't really religious so they just celebrate for the presents. I have always made sure my kids know the true meaning behind Christmas, as well as the origins of Santa Claus and all that. One Christmas Eve, I always read them The Night Before Christmas and a book about the birth of Jesus.

I took my wee girl to midnight mass one year and had visions of her growing up Catholic so we knocked it on the head and stuck with the commercialisation ( blimey that's quite possibly the hardest word I've ever spelt ).

I think it's because all these corporations are trying to get their end of the year audits into the IRS faster.

Most people I know ***** and whine about Christmas stuff betting put out so early. But hey, they have to put something in the lawn and garden section during the winter (obviously for places that get cold in the winter) :p

The managers must have thought "You know what people do at Xmas in England? Have pneumonia BBQ's". While we turn purple by our trees in the garden waiting for our turkey

My boss told me once he came home from work one year covered in glitter from stocking Christmas stuff and his wife was like:
"Why you at the strip club!?" :cautious: Just joking and ******* around with him. šŸ˜‚
