Depression makes EVERYONE do something they know is stupid, or gives you a sickly ironic thought, or can put you in an awkward situation. We know these things happen and yet we are powerless to stop them.

Also, I believe that there is a hint of truth in the old saying of: "Laughter is the best medicine." In the struggles of life, you've got to learn to laugh things off or laugh at yourself at times just to be able to get through to the end of the day sometimes.

So here's a thread of a bit of dark humor, maybe to help cheer some people up, maybe to help people vent their more recent happenings where you look back on something that depression either made you do, or think, or put you in a strange or awkward situation, for you to laugh at in your better mind.

Because surely I can't be the only one here who notices these sorts of things in retrospect of episodes later down the line and thinks: "Wait....what??"

I'll start:

Depression is when you go to Taco Bell after work, and give the mid-20s homeless girl 10$ because she asked and looked kinda cute....then, 30 minutes later, she unexpectedly shows up inside and gives it back to you because you "Look like you need it more" and offers to hug you.

Depression is when you notice that the physical discomfort taking your attention away from your despair, is hunger and that you don't remember when you last ate anything. Then you don't remember what day it is. Then it takes a long time to decide if it's worth it to stand up out of your chair where you've been sitting and staring into a mirror, and walk into the kitchen to find food. Depression is seeing that the only food is a head of lettuce that's shrunk to the size of a tennis ball and a jar of mayonnaise. Depression is needing an hour or so to find the energy to leave the apartment, knowing that it's pointless to go to the grocery store....you'll never have the motivation to actually cook anything, so you go to the convenience store to buy a packaged burrito and heat it in their microwave. Depression is realizing when you tell the clerk, "Thank you" after completing your purchase, that it's the first time you've spoken out loud in a week or so.....in fact you don't really remember when you last used your voice to say something to somebody. Depression is sitting in your chair in front of your mirror again and watching yourself eating that horrid burrito.

OK that was pretty awful. It's been quite a few years since I lived through that. And worse.

Depression is when you are sent as a paramedic to stop someone from throwing themselves off a bridge into a river to die, you feel like holding their hand and jumping right in there with them!

Depression is when you try to look into your future but see nothing but a black hole.

Depression is when you go out and be social and know that no one will speak to you or acknowledge you because it is obvious that you do not have any friends and are there alone.

Depression is taking initiative and trying to speak to people only to be greeted with a look of confusion which says "why are you interrupting us?"
